Steam is soon introducing a feature which allows you to choose where to put your game files.
It's currently in beta, but you can easily access it through Steam->Settings->ACCOUNT->CHANGE(under the beta participation) and choose to participate in the Steam opt in beta.
To use it, go to Steam->Settings->DOWNLOADS+CLOUD->STEAM LIBRARY FOLDERS

I'm not quite sure of how to choose where you want the games, but I'll post back if I figure it out(do post if you figure it out).

This feature is probably mainly useful for people who have SSDs(NO MORE SYMBOLIC LINKS, YAY), but it should be a welcome addition no matter who you are.

This could possibly allow things like shared game resources if you have a fileserver in your home. You can simply play on any computer in the house without downloading another copy of the game. And the game files would remain even when you reinstall your PC.

Oh this is awesome. Some time down the line I'm going to get another drive, but I was worried I would have to get like a 2 tb one or sth and transfer all my steam games over (if I didn't want to do that link bs), because I'm ~700 GB atm just from steam. SO, this is really cool =D

Thanks to TRUeLM, Plastictree, Scrax, Xiaowiriamu, foggy12, JahGFX, jhoijhoi, msrobinson, JEFFY40HANDS, Nyoike, MissMaw, and me :) for the sigs!

AHA, I found out how it works!
You need at least 2 game folders (which you add like I described in the opening post) then it shows a drop-down menu when installing games, BUT it only works for games on the new content system, so not all games support it yet, but that's sure to be fixed until release.
