Very true, some people from my Game Design minor told me it works really well for 3D games. I'll start classes with it in early 2013 :)

Now, it's not on the level of Frostbyte 2(Frostbyte2 probably being the best), Cryengine 3 or Unreal Engine 4, but it's still a very competent engine.

Oh and keep in mind that the animated short is rendered entirely in realtime :)
(for non-techies that means: it could run in a game, while movies from Pixar and Dreamworks definitely can't)
