Well, he's a burster. And burster does not need health. Liandry's Torment is ok, but Rylai's Crystal Scepter and especially Rod of Ages... Nope.

as for veterans scars vs. runic affinity, the idea was to give him more survival in lane, and with my last point its better to put that into veterans scars than any of the other options. he doesnt need the mana regen masteries because he already has his passive. the idea is to focus on pure q farming in lane, which means you dont really need mana for anything else. this means hes not blue dependent. his mana is almost back to enough for another q by the time it gets off cooldown

and i just had a lot of things i wanted to say, I dont know how to fix that as far as the walls of text thing.

its designed to give him extra utility on top of survivability, its not just about survivability, and the liandrys rylais combo makes him a threat to tanks and squishys. that was the point. and the ROA gives him both health and mana to help his sustain

Son, nowadays the way to survival is building two stupid damage items (in veigar's case, DFG + Guise) and then a Warmog's. Your guide brings 0 to the community, Runic Affinity still beats Veteran's Scars on veigar, and there's walls of text everywhere

because the whole point of this build is combining damage and survival, so deathfire cuts into that.

DFG is the most core item on Veigar, while RoA is the complete opposite.
