I rolled in the changes we discussed yesterday while still testing some of them. Again, huge credit goes to Satella, most of these changes are thanks to her.

Holy ****, you actually fixed some stuff after receiving criticism?

This is an unprecedented event in Mobafire history.

I like you YaYa. You have been very humble and willing to take criticism about your guide. Believe me this is a very rare thing on Mobafire these days. I didn't upvote previously but after seeing how well you respond to criticism and the steps you have taken to better your guide I am going to upvote now.

Remember that while taking criticism is a good trait; don't be afraid to stand up for your own original ideas. Personally I like the concept of CDR Riven, so don't turn this guide entirely into a typical solo-top Riven guide. Try and keep your own unique twist, but just make sure it is still viable.

I think what some people forget is that not every guide on Mobafire is meant to give you the absolute best way to play a champ. Some guides may be geared toward a more situational or just plain fun build. Anyways I'll end my rant here. Good job and +1

Flask is a garbage purchase on Riven because you need to get it early game and hold onto it for a really long time for it to be worth the gold. Inventory slots are valuable, especially for someone with such a strong laning phase and counterjungling potential, and the fact that your first expensive item is Bloodthirster makes flask obsolete ridiculously quickly.

It's true what you said about Frozen Mallet. For vs AP Heavy enemy team build, I could subtitute it for a Last Whisper. Yet I don't see any alternative for it concerning the vs AD heavy enemy team except Randuin's Omen which would hurt my damage output even more. Any suggestions?

Riven already does tons of damage with two big AD items; survivability is extremely good because it makes the enemy take even longer to take you down. Ever been on the receiving end of a Riven with Randuin's/Bulwark and GA initiating a fight? Focusing her down would take forever, yet she does so much damage with just two AD items that you pretty much have to focus her despite the fact that she'll revive anyway. Building survivability forces the enemy into a lose-lose situation between attacking somebody really tanky/letting that tanky person wreak havoc. There's really no need to buy an item that has meh survivability and meh AD like Frozen Mallet (no resistances, costs more and has less HP than Warmog's).

Again, this is situational; if you're snowballing hard then it's fine to grab just a GA and build loads of AD, because you'll be ahead in levels and have high base stats that make you sufficiently tanky.

Although I do see your point about CDR in general, I'm afraid I just can't completely remove it from this guide. I just don't want to revert this guide to a mere un-original Riven guide. Like I told to Laggermeister. I made this guide so I can spread the word about the "possibility" of playing Riven with a bit of CDR. Of course It has it's drawbacks, but in the end all builds have it's own drawbacks.

I'm not telling you to remove CDR, I'm just pointing out that the effect of itemizing for CDR leads to trading upfront damage/survivability for more spell casts and lower ultimate cooldown. I don't personally like it since I consider that the AP/ADC's job, but if it works, there's no reason not to do it.

Now I wanna calculate :D
Of course, we will only look at health

Data
Crystalline flask grants 3 free potions, each giving 120 health per 12 seconds
The health is thus basically 360 over 36 seconds
Crystalline flask costs 345g and sells for 138g
Making Crystalline flask cost only 345-138 = 207g

1 Health potion grants 150 health over 15 seconds.
1 Health potion costs 35g
We will assume that the health potions will be consumed, and not be sold.

Calculations
Health pot
First, let's see how much stats you get for your money.
1 Health potions grants 150 health over 15 seconds with the cost of 35g
That means for 1g, you get 4,3 health.

Crystalline flask
To make the crystalline flask better or equal, we must have a minimum of 4,3health/gold.
That means that the amount of health you need to get from crystalline flask =
207 * 4,3 = 887 health

Finall calculation
Since you get 360g per recall, in order to make crystalline just as cost effective as health pots, you will need to recall:
887/360 = 2,5 times
Since you cannot recall in decimals, you will need to recall 3 times.

Conclusion
The guy is probably right :P
Crystalline is more cost effective than health potions, even when just considering the health gain from that.
However:
Satella is also right, it will take up an item slot, also, just for not using a crystalline flask is a downvote rather odd.
But nevertheless, it is something that is good to keep in mind :D

It's the fact that you have to recall that bothers me most. Early CS is a key factor to a successful lane phase. The whole point of a 9 pot + 2 wards is to stay in lane and get as much CS as possible. Yet if you blow your 3 charges and get poked down or lose trades you'll be forced to recall and give your enemy top free CS, hell he might even freeze lane at tower.

I mean that's just the way I see it.

I noticed lately in LCS practically almost no one got the flask. Casual starting items were 9 pots 2 wards or 4 pots 1 red pot and 1 ward
