yes insta locking can be bad for a few reasons

1. you just automatically give people a reason to flame you

2. after a while you should be able to play a few different roles and pick what your team needs

3. insta locking pisses people of and makes them toxic, however if you are only good with one champion, go practice a few different champs in bot games so it's not a big deal when you don't get your champion.

4. before level 30 insta locking isn't that bad but at level 30 don't do it just bad manners

Disagree.

I think instalocking is a wonderful way to have fun in Blind Pick. Ill-advised in Normal Drafts and usually ill-advised in ranked, but otherwise, there's nothing really wrong with instalocking.

Just instalock and mute them. Say a few things in chat so you can't really be reported for refusing to communicate with team.

Remember, the official Riot stance is Pick Order > Call Order. So in Blind Pick it's whoever locks first gets priority. It's not a reportable offence to instalock. Nor is it 'bad manners'. Why the **** is it bad manners? It's a complete free-for-all in blind pick. There is no 'etiquette' to follow, it's first-come-first-served. Letting others pick first or asking where people want to go is being polite and being nice, but there's no necessity nor obligation to do so.

Back to the flaming thing, just mute them. Even if they do occasionally say some useful stuff, it's still particularly hurtful to hear it over the tones of flaming and you're usually not paying attention to the helpful stuff when they're flaming. Don't waste your time trying to decipher what's constructive or not. Just mute them. If you want good honest advice, then partner up with someone else in premades who know what they're doing so they can give you pointers as you play with them. Alternatively, get them to watch through your playbacks and give feedback.

Otherwise, just ask around MOBAFire for general tips on gameplay and/or champions.

Lets agree to disagree, I never said it is bad I just said it can be bad, I have just seen more flame wars start because of it. which is what the thread starter want's to avoid so that's just my experience with instalocking.

The thing is... yes, in Blind Pick it's whoever locks first gets priority but the problem is when you already choose a role and then another guy instalock with the same role after you already said it. Sorry but for me this is kinda bad.

^^ right you can select your champ before locking in, but your game will improve if you can pick what the team needs. someone already locked in Annie well I'm going to adc or whatever I have been experimenting with instalocking the past day or so on a my level 13 smurf, not really getting as much of a negative reaction that I thought I would lol,

I just made the account to play with a friend who started the game, and oh my goodness there are a ton of toxic smurf account's that expect brand new players to know how all atm 115 champions in the game works lmao. Just mute and ignore them they are being toxic on purpose, and they play to hound new players for mistakes that you are going to make anyway so have fun with them saying something can sometimes make them stop hounding you. Or just add more fuel to the fire. So when they say something like Blitzcrank stop grabbing stupid targets, because even I have grabbed that Amumu who then ulted the entire team and got his team an ace just say something like sorry I'm a little grab happy and move on,

Just add things like that to your list of "never going to do that again" so that your next 20 games will be better then your last 20 games

it will get better at level 30 unless you already are. So as of now I have found instalocking to be okay because no matter what you are going to do they will flame at you, so might as well play as a champion your comfortable with. But hey on the bright side you are going against a lot of high level players so to a certain extent it's better for learning.

yep changing my mind about instalocking for the time being, I'm a hypocrite
I stole this Sig idea from SoapSuds

For Blind Pick insta-locking just depends mostly so I have no comment. For Draft/Ranked, just because you have first pick and want to play mid but failed to call it. It's just extremely bad manners to just say "Well I have first pick so dont care." to your teammate that called it first. That's why learning multiple roles, or having a premade team where you're allowed to play the role you want first is great. That's why League is much more fun to play with friends.

well, pick order technically over rules call order in draft/ranked. This is an extension to the code and I would link it if I had saved it.

Always communicate with your team, whether it be blind pick, draft pick or even random. If you communicate well in matchmaking, you will communicate well in game.

Sure, you could get the role you want if you instalock, but that could also mean that you will lose the game because "the blaming game" has started (kinda made a whole guide aboud dis)

If you don't care if you win the game yes or no and just wanna have fun, you could instalock, but it is still better to communicate with your team before picking :P

Well my tip would be to remain calm.
Just do your job. You dont have to listen/read to anyone. You dont have to /ignore and mute whole teams.
Just DO YOUR JOB as good as possible. Be helpfull but not stupid. Dont sacrifice yourself.

Rules you should try to implement as a new player.
1. Dont die. Rule #1 in this game is dont die. If you dont die, ppl usualy wont flame you. You dont have to get 219857292529 kills as long as you dont die. Simple as that.
2. Try to support as much as possible (and by support i dont mean playing Sona/Leona etc) i mean try to do at least a poke on enemies in teamfights. Dont run around like a headless chicken doing nothing. Try to poke as much as possible. I suggest trying "in-and-out" technique for teamfights.
3. Learn to position yourself. If you are not expirienced... than you are not going to play a tank anyway. Try to position yourself always behind someone and most important REACT to what they are doing. Play WITH your teammate/teammates not AGAINST enemies. This is a creep game anyway. Kills are only "used" to push towers and you can leave that to more expirienced players.
4. Dont play 1024958235929 diferent champs. Ofc you should try out all of them when they are avaible (custom games as an example) but try to get as much exp as fiew of them before jumping in on the next one.

There are maaaany other tips, better, worse etc. Main rule is to ignore what ppl are saying unless it is game related like miss gank etc, and do your job as good as you can. You will get there.

Having a nice time in the chat leads to having a nice game. I had great games with an Alistar + Lulu bot lane, we lost terribly, but we were all having fun the whole game. I always try to keep the ambiance as good as possible, I usually call a role nowadays but if someone else instalocks it, I just state once what I think about that action(I usually tell them it's not Sunday anymore, love that terrible joke of mine), and take the role that's left.

It will lead to supporting a lot of times when you're just starting off. But when your hidden elo rises people more often play support, so you get to do other roles too. Playing support is an awesome way of learning SR in my opinion, if one team member is thinking and making plays it's usually the support or the tank. Your flamer-teammates won't notice that awesome Leona dancing through the fight, but it's true.

So I suggest you go for the fun, try your best to keep the mood in the team as good as possible, and just have fun. I think a lot of people make the mistake of getting angry on that Blitzcrank who pulls the ancient golem over the wall after you just walked around it, but that's

FUN.

Just hop back with tears of laughter in your eyes and kill it. Don't think he's irritating you, because it's probably just a joke. It doesn't even matter though, as long as you can laugh about it.

And as a side-note, teams have a higher chance of winning when they have fun together and communicate well than when they don't. But that, I hope, is not your reason for having fun while playing a game.
