Started using this build about two months ago. Since then, Vlad has become my best champ, easily. I'm typically hitting level 18 before my opponents know what to do, and after some minor modifications to fit my playstyle (I'll sometimes pick up Boots of Swiftness since I like the base bonus on Vlad) Its working, and I get better with Vlad every time I play him. Thanks so much for showing me how to make him work the way he's meant to.

It is a pretty good guide but i have several questions
1. Dont you feel vlad mid isnt that viable anymore? Most mid have either long range or heavy burst, and vlad cant deal with that
2. You said fizz against vlad is impossible, but voyboy beat a fizz with vlad without jungle help, and you can negate his ult.
3. Isnt vlad vs swain very one sided? If your smart and take pool at 2, theres no way you can trade with swain. And you have to stack your e quite a bit before it can even match swain's skill, and that is killing you. Swain doesnt even puah the lane that much unless with his snare. So he has a predominate early game that a smart swain will abuse.

I would say fizz would be a medium to hard placement against vlad. I've found out from experience playing mid against a few of them. Pre-6 he's pretty decent to deal with. His trickster skill will only get him so far. If you keep poking him with transfusion, you'll do fine. Once he gets 6, thats when things get tricky but you can still get an upper hand on him. One thing I've noticed which I don't know if others have noticed either is that even if Fizz lands his ult on you, you can just use sanguine pool to avoid the damage on it. Now the bad part here is that you avoid the damage but not the slow so you'll still be traveling slowly so he can just follow you up. So you gotta land a transfusion or something to get you to the tower if you are super low hp. Like you said, jungle ganks are gonna kill you though when miding against Fizz but its still viable. Once you get a decent amount of spell vamp, you are golden.

Played Vlad, liked him for a bit. My main problem with him is that he's sustained damage instead of burst. I like things to go killing...dead instead of killing...killing...still killing...killing some more...almost there...so close...please god don't let him escape...dead. His sustain isn't that great either in my opinion; not bad, but not great. He does shine in team fights though with that ult, and his ability to make people waste their cooldowns. Not bad at killing squishies either. I like the idea of Vlad, of the hemomancy, but I don't really like him as a champion.
