Jack Rubino, are you serious? Everything you heard before that must have been pure genius.
He needed this rework badly. AP Yi was ARAM's (mindless effort) bane and he was very much a snowball (up or downhill) champ anywhere else.
That being said, I enjoyed his kit and the difficulty that was playing AD Yi. I'm thinking this will make it a tad easier.

Well... with ad alpha strike, yi can still harass good with q, and in early should be more powerfull of ap , and late will make ad yi more usefull in teamfight, where he fall so hard atm. But i still prefer ap yi, that's all. its my opinion.
"Follow no false light."

After Testing the revamped master yi in the PBE server here are my thoughts (note I am a regularly silver 5 player, so i am not the most reliable source)
-Alpha Strike scales off AD now (about 50-70%). It's base damage at level 5 is now 150, reduced from 300. It does not prioritize Champs, only the nearest enemies from the target, and the "bounce" range is slightly reduced (i would say by 20%). It can also critical strike now.(Do i smell Crit-Yi replacing Critplank?)
-Meditate does not grant AR or MR while it is channeled, but does damage reduction by a increasing percentage as your level it. Tower damage is only reduced by half of this amount.(ex.If normaly it reduced 50%, than towers are only reduced by 25%)
-Wuju Style passively increases your ad by a percentage now, not a flat amount (yay!). When active, you deal bonus true damage. While on cooldown, you have no bonus from his passive.
-Highlander of course does not need to be active for the refreshes. HOWEVER it no longer completely refreshes his abilities on champ kill, only by a flat amount depending on the level of the skill.(Gotta lose some to win some i guess)
-Overall, he has been buffed. AP Yi is no longer viable (IMO) since only meditate scales off AP. AD Yi is the way to go. Jungle Yi also feels more smoother now since his jungle clear times arnt dependent on luck. In teamfights, I play him as an assasin as his highlander makes it easy to chase down low health champs, or to faceroll their squishy carries.
