Trundle really has in his kit is Pillar of Ice. Subjugate probably counts as well, but if he doesn't have items he can't really use it.Supports have to be champions that offer utility to the team without any gold income from creeps or kills.

No. Trundle is frontline and he will never get the gold from supporting he needs to not die instantly. As far as utility goes, he does have a fair amount, but would you rather have a stat shred and a pillar, or an AoE knockup/massive aoe snare (zyra), or for that matter massive aoe cc as well as aoe stat BUFFS for your team (sona)
It's an interesting thought because trundle's sustain would be pretty decent bot lane due to his passive, but there's no way he could get in to trade effectively with a sona, or a caitlyn, or many others.
