I loved to play Olaf with Frozen Mallet, Shurelya's Battlesong and Ghost in Season 2 to chase every enemy down. I think the new Trinity Force fits to this play style in combination with Ragnarok, maybe, just an assumption.

Same reason as Skarner. Both of them used to wreck nearly everything until all new champions were gifted with a gap closer, which neither of them have. Now nobody plays them and they are getting reworked. -.-

Olaf's problem wasn't sticking to people, the problem was that his damage was nerfed, Warmogs was nerfed, Health stacking was nerfed, and his gap closing was nerfed. Being easily kited was never the problem.
Played him with Shurelia's, Yomuu's etc. anyways, what he needs the most is MS.
He's still a rather good choice for top, it's just that with his dmg nerf and the overall nerf to bruiser play, he simply get's lost in the shuffle...
You play him too tanky: You only deal dmg with Reckless and are simply ignored.
You play him too squishy: You still need to move close and get foc'd down.

I still play him. But Olaf got Olaf'd. Nerfed to the ****ing ground.
If you had trouble sticking to people with Olaf you didn't hit your Q's properly. I only ever used one MS item (aside from Ghost) to stick to people and that was good old Youmuu's Ghostblade.
Been tracking his PBE tweaks and at first I was like 'no freaking way TF is good on him' but they are changing his kit to an AA-based berseker murderfest.
Not saying it will be good on him, just that it can work, since currently his E gets CDR from AAs. His W is giving 80 flat AD now, so I guess with Trinity Force and a Ravenous Hydra he's good to go. W -> 200% AA -> AA -> E -> 200% AA -> AA -> you ain't dead yet? Could work.
