I have a feeling you arent going to watch the podcast so i'll go ahead and answer your question here.
Elise can be built tanky or with damage and it entirely depends on how I do early game and what champions my teammates are playing. If I have a strong front line and I have a good early game I see no problem building Sorc/Guise on Elise. You probably don't want to upgrade to Liandrys till late as the stat boost for the gold is minimal. Sunfire cape would probably be my next buy as its a good mix of damage/tank and it combos nicely with the Pen I've already built. Ancient golem is core every game obviously. If my team isn't very tanky or I have a slow early game I'll probably just build tank. Maybe I'll still throw in a sorc shoes but I'll probably go for a Locket after AG.
I run 21-9-0 on Elise if I'm vs a jungler that typically has a weak early game and my top is somewhat tanky. Vs Lee Sin and Vi it can be smart to run 9-21-0.
