don't play ranked right away, getting to level 30 means you are ready to learn how to play the game, but if you still want to play ranked stop playing normals blind picks, and only queue up for draft pick on your grind to 30. That will help out a lot when you get to 30.

^ this is true. and after you hit 30 you should play a couple hundred normal games. the difference between level 29 gameplay and level 30 is pretty significant. also good rune pages with tier 3 runes help a lot.

I completely disagree. If he is new to league than it's fine to go immediately into ranked play from Normal draft mode lvl 30. In fact, you will find that ranked play is significantly easier.

The one tip is don't go into ranked play without learning at least three of the 5 roles. Remember if you can mid or top you can support. From the experience I have had with players.

1). Always buy wards

2). Learn to last hit if you plan on playing anything but support

3). It's okay to dodge a game if you end up playing a role you can't effectively play.

4). If someone is callign you bad, just mute them and keep playing.

5). guides are just guides, they are not the be all end all of your champion.

6). Pick 2-3 champions and learn them.

7). Listen to advice from higher ranked players (we do have podcasts that highlight each lane :P)

8). Enjoy playing - Pick champions you have fun with even if they aren't dominate champions.

9). Pick order > Call Order - You only call to let players know your preference it doesn't mean you will get it.

^ you can go that route, but that will most likely place you in bronze. if you don't mind climbing the ladders through bronze than go for it. but with a little more prep you can place yourself higher right off the bat. i have 10 ranked solo/duo queue games. i am in silver iv through placements. there are people with 600+ ranked games sitting in bronze. easier to climb starting in silver than bronze imo.

also unless you spend a lot of money on the game the amount of IP you have left after buying a few full rune pages getting up to level 30 won't give you that much left to get a bit of diversity in your champion selection. while you should only master a few champs, you should have more than 2-3 available to you that you can play competently imo. try as many champs as you can before hitting 30. you never know which champ you will feel most comfortable with until you try them.

you can jump straight in...or prepare longer before you do..."THE DECISION IS YOURS! ~you'll have to decide...you'll have to decide....you'll have to decide~" - Airplane (possibly the best slapstick comedy of all time)

Bas i have a lot of friends that are level 30 and play draft games, and i duoQ'd with a few of them and theyve been level 30 for a while, i highly recommend waiting until you have around 400-500 wins before you seriously start playing ranked unless you want to be stuck in bronze for well ever

I see your point but most of the things you listed come from level 30 experience which is why we are saying it's better to wait after a 100-200 + games before doing ranked.

If you're confident enough to go into ranked, on your own head be it. Don't say the mass majority of experienced people didn't warn you.

First, fill out your two standard rune pages at least.

AD Reds and Quints, armor yellows, MR blues (all flat) is pretty universal for all AD based champions.
Mpen reds, armor yellows, MR blues, movement speed or AP Quints are universal for AP based champions.

Then, you might want to find one/two champions you really REALLY enjoy, play those champions in normals until ~500 wins. Get comfortable with them enough that you'd bring them into almost every matchup.

Along the way, buy 'staple' champions for each role. i.e. common champions that perform relatively well without any real effort. You should play these several times in normals to get a feel for them too.

Support: Annie, Fiddles, Lulu if possible
ADC: Cait, Corki, Ezreal, Vayne if possible
Mid: Twisted Fate, Ahri, Zed if you can.
Top: Shen, Renekton, Riven if you can.
Jungle: J4, Lee, Aatrox if possible

imo, this is the minimum of what you should know before going into ranked, not including the last ones on the list.

Lastly, if some champions can play multiple roles, learn all roles possible for said champion. If you like Annie, learn to play her both mid and support, because you may learn things in one lane that can be applicable to another, i.e Annie's long auto-attack harass, which you might not notice in mid because you only farm and last hit with Q's.

I'd say 400 total normal games with more wins than losses and the ability to do really good and carry in normals and also have a decent champion pool (even if you won't use them trading is always good) and to have "mastered" a couple of champions. I don't watch streams but people say it really helps too. As others have said 2 tier 3 rune pages are necessary, I found AD + Armor and an AP page served me quite well.
