i like poe and lovecraft. modern horror relies too much on jump scares and gorey effects.
Condemned is not a modern horror game, lol. It's from like 2005.
It doesn't rely too much on jump-scares either.

my favorite horror games as of this point are amnesia: decent into darkness and nightmare house 2 (half life 2 mod). RE1 is pretty solid too. throw in a silent hill. you be scared for weeks.
Meh, RE1 has too many problems as a result of the fixed perspective imo.
RE4 is great, but not very scary outside of a few places.
Amnesia:TDD (not DID) is amazing ofc.
I've heard that Silent Hill one isn't anything special, but that Silent Hill 2 is amazing. Which one do you mean?

im not saying it was, im just saying i prefer more classical, psychological horror that doesnt heavily rely on gore or jump scares.
And neither does good horror games like amnesia.
Your attitude seems kind of elitist quite frankly.. Stop that.
"I saw [Twilight: Eclipse] in theaters with a girl I was dating at the time. I spent more time staring at my toes and wiggling them than I did watching this abomination. When Edward proposed to Blank Face, I finally looked up with a revelation.
I blurted out loud, in a dead silent theater full of teenage girls on opening night "Wait a minute, Edward has no blood flow. How does he get an erection?" I heard several men laughing, and had several girls turn and stare at me.
I did not get laid that night." - Berengier817

But I'd have to agree to that.
Amnesia has both aspects, tho. The story is enough to get you firghtened, but it also contains gore.
As caucheka said, poe's stories were awesome qwq

While on the topic of scary games, I think Frictional nailed the concept for their next game completely:
"I sexually Identify as an Attack Helicopter. Ever since I was a boy I dreamed of soaring over the oilfields dropping hot sticky loads on disgusting foreigners. People say to me that a person being a helicopter is Impossible and I’m ****ing ******ed but I don’t care, I’m beautiful. I’m having a plastic surgeon install rotary blades, 30 mm cannons and AMG-114 Hellfire missiles on my body. From now on I want you guys to call me “Apache†and respect my right to kill from above and kill needlessly. If you can’t accept me you’re a heliphobe and need to check your vehicle privilege. Thank you for being so understanding." - Guuse

if you liked poe then you should check out lovecraft. the dude idolized poe and is almost as influential poe himself. even more influential than stephen king.
I like things that make me feel stupid. - Ken Levine

Not mentioned in the video is Condemned: Criminal Origins, which is 75% off too. It's a good, gritty horror experience.
