It only works sometimes though. Otherwise you either get left out of a 5v4 teamfight, or feed the Riven whos got a Tiamat 10 minutes in.
Note the critical part 'while keeping your opponent stuck in top'. As long as you keep him busy because he is too stupid to roam with his advantage, it is worth it for you.
"I WON LANE I DESERVE TO WIN THE GAME GG NOOB TEAM HOLDING ME BACK IN BRONZE"
Just part of the blame game.
Also, it feels good when you're like gold and you say "I won lane against a Plat Riven!!!"

Winning lane is made a big deal (mostly in lower Elos) as people feel since they won the lane they are entitled to win the game. It honestly doesn't matter if you win a lane if you don't transition it to an advantage for your team with some dragons or towers. Winning lane is an important part to winning, but it is not the "instant game win" by any means that players try to make it out to be.

indeed. i 'win' lane the vast majority of the time. especially as support. but clearly as my record will show i don't win the vast majority of games. and yeah at low elo a lot of players get it wrong. they go champ hunting instead of pushing advantages for objectives. imo that is the greatest separation between higher elo players and lower elo players. lower elo just don't seem to understand that objectives win games. not KDA.

Yes and no, that's a common misunderstanding by players who have not played more than 10 games in low elos. Sure you get some trolls who believe they win lane that they are the greatest ever and everyone else sucks. However, a large reason for the I won my lane comments is when players begin to rage about an opposing laner being fed or are losing their lane by a significant portion, or there is a team fight for no reason.
If I am playing top, and down 0/2/1 to the opposing laner. I am going to freeze my lane and refuse to let him close on it. In lower elo's, 2 kills is not feeding as the players generally do not have the skill or knowledge to take advantage of it. So I freeze my lane ignore the raging and passively farm. If the player leaves lane, I signal they are roaming, and hard push my lane to take the turret and force him back. I have won a game when behind 2/5 because I pushed ever turret and took them down while the opposing team was focused on kills.
I may have lost the lane matchup, but I won my lane as I established objective control. Typically when a low elo player begins to get wrecked in top or mid lane, and they leave lane to go help out. They continue to get wrecked in the other lane. I would much rather have you go farm jungle or feed your opposite laner than to come down to my lane and die there.
I have only seen a few players pull off the I am getting ****ped on in my lane time to go help another lane until I recover.

Long-story-short we won the game due to a Lux and Volibear carry, but I was just so puzzled by this Kha'Zix so desperately trying to win lane for 40 minutes straight.
Actually, if you're losing lane and you can just stay safe while keeping his opponent stuck in the top lane while the rest of the team wins 4v4, it is not such a bad idea.
