There are a ton of different things that stand as benefits and disadvatanages from each side.
Purple Side has higher MMR, and I think they end up getting first pick and ban(idr which side that is honestly lol) and then there is positioning in terms of map objectives with red and blue buffs, as well as ganking routes. Blue side has a better ganking route bot, purple side has a better ganking route top etc.

Highest MMR will be blue side captain (first pick and ban) everytime. So if you are on. Blue side you were teamed with, or just happen to be, the "best player" in that particular game

It's 50/50, but if you don't like playing on purple side your brain tends to remember it because you don't like it.
Another example: You can specifically remember some people who are toxic to you in game, but you can't really remember every good team that was genuinely nice. This is also why bronze players claim there are trolls/ragers/afkers every game, they just remember it more vividly than the good games that happen 50% of the time.
