How viable is this still?

I personally just played my first game as her since her release and i always hated her, i've just falled head over heels for her mechanics and what i achieved as just a support and just got a dominating aram down with her aswell.

Question is, any long time users of zyra have any tips on best utilizing her? :)

I still love zyra support to this day. I find her to be much too squishy though.
Imo, the difference between a good zyra support and a bad zyra, is how they use their ult. Stranglethorns can be a pretty nice follow up on an initiate. Throwing your stranglethorns on >3 champions can greatly swing the tides of a team fight in your favor.

Grasping roots is actually (imo) quite easy to land. One good tip to know, is that if the opposing team has an assassin, try to read when the assassin will jump your carries, and just throw your Grasping Roots wherever your carries are. That usually allows for a successful snare :)

Another thing is that zyra is very squishy, so try not to stand near the front of your team, before a team fight happens - especially if the opposing team has a heavy siege/poke composition

Ok thank you :)

I saw the ease of the roots, I'm sure they went farther than they were suppose to but I'm not arguing.

This leads me on to my next question, adding 50% attack speed to my plants of i use
My ultimate on them...should i waste time setting this up, does it benefit my team at all?

Imo it's like the icing on the cake. I don't really care to do the math right now, but i think it increases your damage as a support by like 33% or sth like that.

Doing it in the mid game (~level 11) can help your team out, but zyra support doesn't have a heck of a lot of damage on her plants until very late game.

Oh really? Huh, I'll make sure to set them up then :)

Just had a ranked game with a lulu
And draven and won the lane very easily. To my surprise, what I'm finding and it's never intentional is before level 6 I'm picking up kills. I was 5/0 before 6 and my adc was 2/3

WORST SUPPORT EVER!

try placing seeds immediately after you use her Q (in the radius of its AoE ofc), this makes you a bit less predictable than placing a seed and then using Q.

it's also faster, in my experience.

I still play her. She still has good peel, but Leona, Annie, and Thresh make her laning phase really risky. I think you have to be an exceptional Zyra player to avoid dying immediately every fight, because there are so many strong initiators right now

Just went against an EZ & Thresh.

I got caught twice by thresh and the lane was GG as they then countered the varus i was with aswell. Once i stopped getting caught (one down to my 1000ping i had to sort out) the lane was won. Only problem came is when no one banned the god forsaken Amumu who jungled :( Bested our entire team!

As a generic support i want Aura items etc.

Just watched a couple of Challenger I videos of zyra supports, saw builds consisting of a Locket, then straight in to AP heavy items.

How do i determine when i need to put out more AP or more Support items?

40 games in ranked now so getting there, whenever i played support in normals. I tend to just go with it, if i want a rabadons on a janna i'll take one. Where as ranked i feel under pressure on my choices and how they will weigh out the game. Just need some advice on working that out.

I'm not sure how good her laning phase is right now. Obviously her late game is probably the best amongst supports, but other than that small power spike at level 2, she's just mediocre in lane
