In addition, they completely broke away from the main characters old story to turn him from a theif who looked out for number one into the bland, overdone robin hood type bandit. The factions in this game lost all their roots and are shadows of their formal self. And the ****ing amnesia cliche **** is annoying as ****. No wonder the original voice actor for Garrett turned down the project.
Do yourself a favor and don't support a game like this that changes an original unique game into the typical "appease the audience" ********. Pick up the original Thief: Deadly Shadows and thank me later, you taffer.

After looking around a bit more it seems the game is indeed riddled with problems like the ones you've mentioned, but that doesn't really make it bad, it just makes it bland and uninspired, like many other AAA titles today.

The game is probably still fun, no doubt. I just find it wishy washy when they take an original idea, candy coat it to look like another popular franchise and have the gull to call it Thief when in reality it's Assassin's Creed: Dishonored. There's trying to jump start a series, then there's essentially what happened with that one TF2 like game that EA rehashed before it was released to make it look like a stereotypical macho bad *** bland shooter. I forgot the name of that project, probably because it failed.
And yes, I'm serious. The original thief, although dated, is still a blast to play. The story is good and the mechanics are lovely for what they are. That and Garrett is a very interesting character as a whole his narrations weren't all that bad. Me gusta. >:[
