I would recommend Nami becouse she has lots of CC, damaging heal for sustain and in my opinion one of the best and funniest to use ultimate.
She might be not as easy to play, but after few games u should get fairly comfortable with her.

Thresh, Leona, Annie, Lulu, Karma, Morgana, Nami
As said before don't mind about picking Nidalee.
Leona relies on a combo after level six and if you land it you get at least one kill pretty much everytime. Thresh can harass with Flay's passive and set up good plays aswell so I guess these two great choices. When playing both set your most points in defense Mastery tree and go for Greater Mark of Attack Damage or Greater Mark of Hybrid Penetration.

Thanks to Emikadon for this sig!
What emoriam says is pretty much the jist of it. To keep in line with someone like Lux, Lulu and Karma (as well as Morg as a meta counter) would be your best bet.

Definately don't pick Lux for SoloQ. You will steal lots of kills with your ulti (even unintended ones) and you'll be hated for that. So save yourself lots of reports and don't do it :)
Also everybody hates Nidalee, as she has to keep her distance to be able to do some dmg with her spears, so - again not viabel for SoloQ.
You should get few champs and learn them well, because of different team compositions. Sometimes you will need tanky support, sometimes CC support, and sometimes a healer or poker. Good, cheap start imho is:
Alistar, Soraka, Fiddlesticks, Kayle (Ali is for free, rest is about 4000 IP alltogether)
As you progress, and find out what type of support you like to play, you can choose from all the rest, that people suggested.
