Last MOBAFire Celebrity Interview we got to hear the thoughts of one of MOBAFireā€™s Season 4 Guide Contest winners, xDanielWang. This interview we'll be talking to Emikadon, the winner of the #1 prize for that same contest.

Emika won the award for the best overall guide for all categories. Emikadon's guide, -A Whimsical Wonderland Support- gained the respect of our judges for it's top notch build and writing.

Thanks for making such a great guide Emikadon, and congratulations! Now, onto the interview...

What prompted you to make your guide?

  • When I first started playing League of Legends, MOBAFire was my go to site to find quick and easy-to-read guides on how to play. After getting more experience myself, I thought it would be really cool to actually write a guide myself and let my opinions be heard, but I was a bit reluctant to actually do so. My friends encouraged me and helped me out with the explanations and build itself. It was thanks to them that I finally mustered the courage to actually hit the publish button!

How did making a guide improve your League of Legends experience?

  • As a player, I found myself improving rapidly. Being forced to explain what build to go about and why I chose specifically what I did really made me understand the build itself way better. Plus, all of the feedback I received on my builds was beyond helpful, and everyone I talked with always had suggestions that I had no idea existed. Plus, Iā€™ve met so many people who are way more experienced than I am and Iā€™ve learned a lot!

How did you feel when you found out your guide won the top prize of the S4 guide contest?

  • At first, I was completely stunned. I had no idea I was even qualified for the contest. But after the initial shock wore off, I was excited beyond belief. Honestly, it was all I could do to stop myself from jumping up and down while squealing like a deranged fangirl.

Do you have any advice for other guide writers?

  • My advice would be to keep an open mind! Youā€™re probably not going to be right 100% of the time, and thatā€™s completely okay ^_^ If you insist on being stubborn, youā€™re losing out on a chance to not only improve your own guide, but also to improve your gameplay and knowledge as a whole. Itā€™s fine to defend your opinions, but always be open to criticism!

What keeps you coming back to MOBAFire?

  • MOBAFire is one place where I can let my inner gamer reign free without worrying about whether people will judge me because I like playing video games. Talking about LoL with the same group of friends over and over again can get kinda redundant. But here, there are so many people who are willing to just talk about random stuff, and thatā€™s what makes it so interesting!

What are you looking forward to on MOBAFire?

  • Iā€™m definitely looking forward to meeting even more people. Iā€™m hoping to become more active than I already am and really become closer to the community :D

Can you tell us about your journey with League of Legends? What was the experience like when you started, and what is it like now?

  • When I first started playing League of Legends, it was actually my first time playing a MOBA. So naturally, I was terrible my first few months. After begging for some guidance from my friends, I gradually improved to the point where I wasnā€™t feeding against beginner bots. After a lot of experimenting and failing, I eventually got the hang of it. Now, I can play with strangers and not be a total scrub; an achievement I would have been proud of a year ago! ^_^

Why Lulu? What makes you feel attached to this character?

  • Lulu was honestly the first champion I ever just ā€œfell in love withā€, I guess you could say. There was a period of time where I refused to play anyone other than her. I would take her as a support, AP mid (I did it before it was cool! ;D), ADC, on-hit Lulu, and Iā€™m fairly certain Iā€™ve even jungled with her. Her kit is just so much fun to play, and you can do so many things with it. Plus, her chipper personality and adorable character is just so cute~

Whatā€™s a memorable moment you had playing League of Legends?

  • Once, I managed to pull an ā€œxPekeā€ and backdoored an entire team during a 75 minute game. I was playing as Ezreal, and I was pretty fed, full build and all. Tension was pretty high between teams since some of my teammates werenā€™t exactly... the nicest people in the world. Well, unfortunately, the rest of my team was killed while trying to finish off the nexus, and I was the last one standing. The death timers were over a minute at this point, so one way or another, the game was going to end. So after the enemy team stopped wasting their time trying to catch a full build Ezreal, they tried to finish off our base.

Instead of recalling to try and defend, I decided to go complete ham and ran to their base. Soon enough, though, the enemy team realized what I was trying to do and sent 2 people to try and stop me. But hey! Blinking over the nexus is pretty fun (and hilarious). Needless to say, we won >:)

When do you have the most fun playing League of Legends?

  • I absolutely love playing with friends. If we donā€™t have enough for crazy 10 man in-houses, 5 of us would group up to go in normals and troll around and just have fun. Often, we would try the weirdest things, like go all supports (#ADCLULUFTW) or do nothing but jungle and leave the enemy team wondering where the heck we were.

Do you have any goals for the new season?

  • My main goal this season to become a more versatile player. Outside of ADC and support, Iā€™m really not that good at any of the other roles. Of course, I can play top/mid/jungle enough so that I wonā€™t feed (horribly), but Iā€™m still not that comfortable with them. Iā€™m hoping to not be so limited by the time Season 4 comes to a close.

Whatā€™s another game that you are very fond of, and why?

  • Iā€™ve never had that much time to spend on video games, but as a child I loved that Gameboy/Nintendo DS life. The games that pop up into my head immediately are the Legend of Zelda and Pokemon games. Legend of Zelda was, and still is, a classic, and Iā€™m a sucker for fantasy. Pokemon is a journey that every child should experience and I still love playing them to this day!

Who is your favorite superhero, and why?

  • To be honest, I donā€™t have one. Iā€™ve been told I was a really cynical child who didnā€™t believe in flying superheroes who would come and sweep the damsel in distress off her feet. But if I had to choose someone, Iā€™d probably say Batman. He has a pretty cool car ;)

If you could go anywhere in the world where would you go?

  • If I could go anywhere, Iā€™d love to go to France. The culture and history behind the country is fascinating, and there are so many iconic places I would love to visit.

Do you have any funny stories from when you were a child?

  • This was about 4 years ago, and I was experiencing my first ever crush. Of course, my little 12 year old mouth couldnā€™t stop itself from blabbing to my best friend. And as my best friend, it was her job to tease me every chance that she could. Well once, said friend and I were on a camping trip sponsored by our summer camp, and one of the activities for the day was canoeing. We were paddling around a small lake with several other groups also on the water, and my crush was there.

Unfortunately, my friend decided it would be funny if she suddenly shouted, ā€œHey look! I think heā€™s staring at you!ā€ and pointed behind me. As an easily excited 12 year old, I needed to see if this was really true, so I spun around and tried to stand up at the same. The next thing I remember is the canoe flipping over and dunking both me and my friend into the water. The camp counselors were furious since they clearly told us not to try and stand up in the canoes and they made us write lines for the rest of that activity hour.

Thanks and congratulations Emikadon!

Wha... What is this? No. You know what? I just don't know it anymore and I just decided that, for the first time in my life, I don't want to know.
Congrats.

Well that was kinda mean... :( Is there any particular reason you've decided to throw out that sardonic jab for no apparent reason?

Your guide is great and you deserve the recognition! It's mostly a matter of you being unheard of until the contest and what not. The term "celebrity" seems ill-fitting..? perhaps.

100% this.

Emikadon won a contest and has earned their reward, which they, in my opinion, already received but if people think their guide deserves to be in the spotlights one more time, that's fine, so be it. However I don't see how "MOBAFire Celebrity" is fitting and I needed to express my confusion. If the aforementioned MOBAFire member, oops sorry, celebrity, decides to take this personal, then that's their faulty interpretation and not my intention.

Emikadon has been a great contributor to the site, and won the most prestigious award of the only guide contest we've ever had. Being a "MOBAFire Celebrity" is not just about post / rep count. In my opinion if we just went in order of the users with the most rep / posts / who have been around the longest / you name it Celebrity Interviews would be quite boring. That's why we try to vary the reasons people are chosen for Celebrity Interviews.

Just FYI, to this date no one has recognized me outside of MOBAFire for being the Community Manager, but several have recognized me for my guides. Someone even recognized me last month for my Kog'maw guide which was archived over a year ago. Guides mean a lot to a lot of people.

TL;DR Ignore the jelly haterz Emikadon, you're awesome!

If in that case, I regret jumping to conclusions. I completely understand if you are confused (I myself am as well, since I know I am not very well known), but I still do not understand why you had to express said confusion in such a scathing manner. When Mowen approached me with an offer for an interview, I jumped at the chance to hopefully grow closer to the community by allowing my own personality to be known. I sincerely apologize if I have offended anyone by taking the title, and if necessary, will ask for the interview to be deleted :)

Edit: @Mowen Oops, I must have still been typing when you posted yours... But it's fine if GMD would like to express her opinions as long as it isn't a personal attack :) It was my fault for misinterpreting it ^_^

Yes, yes it was. However do not despair, I'm a very reasonable individual and thus accept your, seemingly sincere, apology. I mean, after all, your guide seems to hold a lot of my coding.

Well on this matter, my opinion should be clear. Personally I think it'd be better to scrap it for now and re-do it once you're a little more well-known within the community and have become a real part of it. That way, it should feel more earned as well.

I, too, was slightly confused. I don't dislike you for it or anything, but it just does not seem appropriate for some reason. I mean, you've recently been quite a frequent poster, but it hardly means 'celebrity' status, at least, in my opinion, especially compared to the many other users who have been around since Season 2.
