Manga/Anime You Read/Watch

I tried watching Air since it was made by the same studio that made Clannad if I'm not mistaken. I didn't really enjoy it, the storyline was just quite boring.[/quote]

It's not about whether or not it's good, it's about the fact that it's more literature than most anime. It's a deconstruction of mecha anime tropes (absentee father, children piloting mechs 'cuz reasons, manic girl and emotionless girl, etc.), and even without being explicitly versed in those tropes (although I think your experience with SNK will draw some easy parallels) it's clear that there's something really interesting going on. It's a major part of anime history, and I don't think it matters whether or not you like it, you should watch it anyway. [/quote] A friend of mine likes to call this kind of thing "genre thrills". There's something that each of us really like and can watch/read/play/whatever regardless of whether or not that thing is good, because it's the genre itself that we love. This would be why I watch shitty romcoms, for instance. On the subject of [i]Clannad[/i] itself, the first season was pretty decent. Honestly, it was good when it was mostly a comedy. When it decided to do other things it kinda' went downhill a bit, but the rest of the first season was still okay. [i]After Story[/i] was too tear-jerky for me to really like, even though I watched the whole thing. Also it did some weird things that didn't make any sense, which doesn't help. [spoiler=More new anime seasons stuff. Is long.] Also, I've been watching some more of this season's new anime. To the skip-list, I believe we can safely add [i]Kenzen Robo Daimidaler[/i]. It lost me at mediocre animation, characters I immediately disliked (hooray boob grabs as introductions to male leads...), and offputting character design. Also weird mech design and a very boring opening action sequence kinda' sealed the deal. If you can't impress me (or at least avoid letting me down) with what you're doing at the very beginning of episode 1, I have little faith in the rest of the show. I also didn't at all like the first episode of [i]Kindaichi Shounen no Jikenbo R[/i]. Again, I'm not that big a fan of the characters, and a lot of the first episode plot developments felt pretty forced and sudden. But I'm also not generally a fan of detective anime, so I can't stand by my opinion as much. Adding to the list of things that I have liked, [i]Akuma no Riddle[/i] was pretty mediocre. I wouldn't suggest going for it unless it fits your genre thrills. So far it's been a bit weird, and I might have more to say later. [i]Isshuukan Friends.[/i] (period in the title) was right up my alley. Praise be to the romance anime. Immediately giving it the lifebaka Official Stamp of Approval[sup]TM[/sup]. Seriously, though, it's very competent at the slice-of-life romance stuff, so absolutely give it a look if that's your thing. [i]Gokukoku no Brynhildr[/i] ([i]Brynhildr in the Darkness[/i]) was all right. Romance subplot is obvious, but I'm not sure what the larger plotline is going to end up being yet, and I get the feeling we're not dealing with a straight romance here. I'm less comfortable semi-recommending this, as I just don't know what it is yet. [i]Baby Steps[/i] is probably pretty good. Sports anime aren't usually my thing, but I'ma keep watching this one. Although I wonder how many of these non-sports-man-gets-into-sport-and-gets-really-good sports anime we're going to get, given the recent biking anime in a very similar vein. Anyway, if you like sports anime, this is probably a safe bet. [/spoiler][/quote]

And if the manga's at that part then it's a little behind indeed. And yes, watching Eva is like watching Bible Black, you don't want to but you will watch it eventually. *thunder* *evil laugh* EDIT: Finished SAO. It was a good ride, some crazy things too. The last arc definitely was the weakest though in my opinion. Does anyone dare guess what he says at the end of episode 25?[spoiler]I first thought it was something like "Thanks, goodbye" or whatever the Japanese was that girl from his first guild said when she died. But it doesn't really match with the lips, right? Then I read somewhere that the book mentions him whispering a name. Could it be the creator?[/spoiler] [spoiler]And what do you think of the creator? Good or bad? He left the protagonists to live while they were killed, and saved them in the second arc too. The anime on the other hand makes it easier to follow the commedy, so whoever wants some romcom slapstick anime, here it is. Edit: The first chapter of [i]Fujimi Lovers (Undead Lovers)[/i] is out! The story is really interesting, but we are all still in the dark about the actually plot lol. It is sad, scary and cute at the same time wuhu. Just what I needed ^_^ Edit2: Finished [i]Ashita Dorobou[/i] - As a hater of romcom+harem tags, I went into this with mixed feelings. As I began reading, I really liked the devlopement. The harem tag was minimal true (since it was the same girl all the time). And nevertheless, I can sleep in peace now. I finished a manga with an actual satisfying ending: [spoiler] Usually, romcoms with harem tag end with the status-quo ending: The MC is close to every girl, yet has no real relationship with either of them. Basically, everyone is happy just being close with the MC- end. Really disappointing most of the time. But Ashita Dorobou actually managed to made the best ending possible for such a genre (the best I've red so far, tbh I didn't read much of that genre, yet).[/spoiler][/quote]
