I'm thinking 
Irelia will have alot of trouble in this matchup. She is much weaker early game compared to Kha'Zix who can probably burst you down some at level 2 and then kill you at 3 if you are not careful. Farming under turret will somewhat make it easier on the Irelia as if he jumps on her she can just stun him under turret and let him take alot of free damage. Some early sustain from a vamp scepter will help her stay in lane along with some extra armor and health. I'm thinking that once she hits he power spike around lvl 9 she should be able to do some more trades with Kha'Zix.
Late game she should be able to outscale and yet at the same time be quite a bit tankier. Not to say it's impossible for the Irelia but she should have some trouble in lane. Basically play extra safe at start of match then outscale him late game. If he starts roaming either push down the tower to punish him or follow him for potential kills.

Farm under tower and try to bait a dive, then stun him, slam his head in a bit and jump around creeps to avoid damage if you're really low. This should get you 2~3 tower hits and if he's low enough a kill or maybe a flash burned. If he isn't a dumbass wait until the point you can trade evenly.
Other than that, pushing a wave is a bad idea because he can slow you and if the jungler comes its probably flash or death. Farm jungle a bit, roam mid before he does or go with him, etc.

It's cheese. A weird all-in tactic that is pretty much a play based on hope. The Kha player picked a weird top laner hoping that you would either play into an unfavorable match up for yourself and also rely on your unfamiliarity with Kha's kit and damage output to land an easy lane phase with a few kills to snowball the rest of the game. Based on the reason kha got a bit more than a single kill lead though.
