particularly Yasuo... I seem to get zoned out of CS against ranged champs like kayle, ahri, and even janna.

Kayle is a pretty tough one for melees to beat, not much more to be said about that matchup.

Melee vs. Ranged is all about surviving levels 1-3. After you hit levels 1-3, stop worrying about farming too much, excluding certain champs like Nidalee, Vayne, or Quinn, after you get all your skills, you'll win every fight against ranged champs that you start.

Don't worry about getting zoned levels 1-3, farm as much as you can, but after you hit 3, start a fight as soon as you can, and then you can farm and zone them when they're low on health. For example, as soon as you hit 3 on Yasuo, Start E'ing through the creeps, onto their ranged champ, AA and Q as much as possible, use windwall to block stuff like Charm, or Kayle's Q, etc. and when you can't AA anymore, E through your creeps back to your side of the lane. Buy wards though to make sure you're not getting ganked while you do this.

Some melee champs with a poke skill are easier to play against ranged.

Example Talon, Zed has quite easy time vs certain ranged.

Way of the Wanderer and Wind Wall should decently protect you. Stay out of range and keep moving(for Way of the Wanderer and because it's harder to hit you), only move towards the creeps if you can last hit one and then go back out of range again. Buying boots early on will help a lot.

If you think you can get out of a trade positively, stack your Steel Tempest, use Last Breath and burst them as hard as you can. You don't have to kill your enemy if you can't, but you may be able to force them out of the lane so you can farm easily.

There should be enough Yasuo guides explaining matchups against ranged champions, perhaps it's worth taking a look.
