Hmm that makes a lot more sense, thank you for the lesson on that. I do have a question though. I am looking for a new phone and currently have Sony phones on my mind. I like listening to music and the speaker on my Sony Xperia M is really good, clear audio and quite loud for such a small device. I would like the new phone to have a good speaker like my current phone but also a good camera quality as I have been travelling a lot recently, do you have any suggestions? I would prefer Sony but others companies are fine as well, I have been looking at the Motorola G right here and it doesn't seem all that bad. The price is pretty good as well.
You seem to be looking at the lower price ranges. Sony does not make especially good budget phones. Same goes for Samsung.
If you want something good for a cheap price then I'd say look at the Moto G2(2014 model, the one you linked) and the Nexus 5.
Both are ridiculously good value. The Nexus 5 is about twice the price, but offers better hardware in almost every category. It's almost comparable to flagships like HTC One M8 and Galaxy S5.
Nexus is Google's own brand and Motorola are great at updating their phones, so both of them will get quick updates. Nexus 5 already has Android 5.0 and Moto G will likely get it next month. Android updates are kind of a big deal btw.

Just joining here to add the OnePlus One to the suggestions. It has decent speakers, a good onboard equalizer, pretty good 13mp camera with sony sensors and sells for 300€ (64gb) and 269 (16gb). It's a lot better than the Nexus 5 in nearly all aspects.
Only possible downsides are its availability (invite/pre order only which can take a few weeks) and size (5.5" is too big for a lot of people, Nexus 5 is 5").
It's pretty much the best smartphone of 2014 if you look at it from a price/performance standpoint, and it can easily go head-to-head with the S5, M8 etc.
(If you want more information on the One, I own the phone myself so feel free to ask)

Alright I will check the Nexus 5 as well, I used to own a Nexus S but it unfortunately broke. One of the reasons for changing phones is because of Sony's refusal to update the Xperia M to 4.4 KitKat. A lot of people are agreeing it is completely possible for Sony to launch the update but Sony seems to be refusing the idea.

That phone looks really nice, a great price too, $299 for me. Size isn't too much of a problem and I have been looking for something for Christmas. hopefully shipping won't cost much.
My only problem with it is whether or not it can be compatible with my Canadian phone network, I will need to contact them about it, otherwise it would be a waste to buy it.
Thanks for the help guys, really appreciate it.

The OnePlus One supports the following wireless bands/frequencies:
GSM: 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz
WCDMA: 1/2/4/5/8 (2100/1900/1700/850/900 MHz)
LTE: 1/3/4/7/17/38/40
Also oneplus added a carrier compatibility list:
(Green means full support)
Just one note, the 16gb probably isn't available so you'll have to get the 64gb version (350$ iirc).

Sweet! They have Wind fully supported, thanks Vynertje. By the way, do you have any extra invites? Apparently the only other way from invites is through their promotional events. Also if you do get me an invite, it it a temporary thing? Like if i were to get one do I NEED to purchase the OnePlus immdietly or can I wait until Christmas time?

I don't have any right now (Although I know where to buy them for 5-10€'s a piece). Also, yes invites have a limited time in which you can use them.
However, OnePlus also organizes pre-order 'events' (last one was this monday and only lasted one hour) where you can pre order them on a first-come, first-serve basis without needing an invite.
Also, I suggest we continue this conversation through PM if you have any further questions to avoid polluting this thread :)

You really should have made a thread about it..
But since we've shot the horse already we might as well poke it a few more times until we're done.
Yeah, Sony, Samsung and LG are the worst among the big names at updating. Here's how they compare in update speed and frequency:
Nexus > Motorola > HTC > Sony > Samsung > LG
Oneplus would probably go in around where HTC is.
Oh yeah, I forgot about the 1+1.
It's a great phone, but it definitely has its downsides.
If you're buying one the you need to be prepared for the fact that there might be problems. The software is generally a lot buggier than that of the big manufacturers. There have been tons of problems with buggy digitizer driver software, boot-loops and random bugs. You also need to be prepared for a less fluid experience in regards to replacements.
In general it's a less safe purchase than established brands such as Motorola and Nexus.
The phone is also quite HUGE. Here's how it compares to your phone. It's almost double the size. I could never hope to carry around such a phone myself. It's just way too big.

Alright last comment about phones, we should try to get back on topic after this.
Yea it was pretty huge for the Xperia M to not get the software update, it wouldn't be as much of a problem if you could easily root it but the process is really long and somewhat difficult and the root isn't that stable. Huh, I would think LG would at least be a bit better with their phones, then again iirc, LG had their own OS for a bit before switching to android, so I can see why they wouldn't like to update their phones often.
In all honesty I think I may get the OnePlus, I just need to remove the limit on my debit card so I can buy the phone. Well of course it had downsides, but doesn't every other phone have downsides as well? MY phone for example cannot do App2SD, with a small storage of 1GB after installation giving me very limited space with my phone, makes it a real burden. Well of course it may be buggy, it is running
Cyanogen, but I should have no problems with dealing with problems like boot loops or buggy software. I generally am safe when I have a phone that has some sort of ROM like Cyanogen, in fact I will only mess around with my hardware settings IF I know that it will be safe. I've sent laptops to be "replaced" for weeks only to have them returned with small hardware fixes, I should be able to last a couple of weeks without a phone if I do need to replace it.
In terms of size I am actually okay with a large phone, having a larger phone would be great for school at the moment and I enjoy watching netflix and youtube only my phone.
If you wanna keep talking we could make a thread about phones, up to you.

Above a threshold of around 2-4MP it doesn't make much difference on most screens.
It does make difference if you want to zoom or crop the picture however. But 5-8MP should be plenty enough for anybody, at least in a phone.
Hence why for example the iPhone 6 has one of the best mobile cameras on the market right now despite only having 8MP compared to the 13-20MP cameras in competing phones. (it has other problems tho, like terrible screen-to-bezel ratio)
What matters far more is the area per pixel. Which is greatly influenced by the sensor size.
This is the reason why DSLRs and Mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras are far superior phone cameras even if the camera has 12-18MP while the phone has 20MP; because they have more than 10 times as much sensor area per pixel.
One can get a rough proportion of this by dividing the area of the sensor by the number of pixels.
I'll go into more detail in the eventual thread, if you want me to.
I gotta go sleep now.
Did you take it using some kind of app? That only further reduces the quality of the photo. I recommend against such things.
No need to create a separate thread, you are just informing me on this and it shouldn't derail the thread, if it does somehow it should be best to create a thread then.
Hmm that makes a lot more sense, thank you for the lesson on that. I do have a question though. I am looking for a new phone and currently have Sony phones on my mind. For this photo however I did not use an app for it, I used my default camera app, the most photo editing I did was adding it to gimp and changing the curves of the image slightly.
