By far, the ultimate counter for Sona, 3 of her 4 skills can stun. Her Q can go past minions making Sona unable to poke her from safe distance. Her ult can stun an area and a combo with Q and E can leave you stun forever.

AP Build Sona's Strengths
With ROA rush as first items, your AP and Mana scalling quickly into Mid game, with a strong mana refund passive, Sona could be quite a threat to opponents.
Coupled with Max CDR at 45% and ultimate hat, her skills are literally always ready, eg her W at max skill is 4s CD, with an aura lasting for 3s, you are actually on CD for 1s only.
Redemption would be a better item to many others, but Sona, heal and sheild can actually provide more help than redemption.
