This is my brand build. It focuses on Brand's damage output as well as survivability. Brand is a full-on caster champion. All of his abilities focus on ability power, although brand scales on Magic Pen instead of AP. This guide will show you what items to use, and why.

Since Brand scales on Magic Pen, I try for as much magic pen as i can get in my runes, the reason being is because besides my Boots, I don't any magic pen till late game.
Ability power runes also help a great deal, certainly when your team goes for the starting game gank.
Cool-Down reductions can also be very helpful too.
If you feel like you are constantly OOM, you may want to use some mana regen, or flat mana runes.

for masteries i like 21-0-9

I try to get as much damage output as I can, while trying to savor my Buffs, and or Mana and Health.

Brand is a Great Caster to play, and can be build in many different ways. I like to focus on damage output, as well as survivability.

Starting always get Doran's Ring. This item is the obvious choice for most casters, it gives HP, AP, and regen.
Second, I go for my Sorcerer's Shoes. These will provide your movement speed and early Magic Pen. (Remember Brand scales on Magic Pen) *NOTE BRAND MOVES VERY SLOWLY, YOU MAY WANT SPEED BUFF IN JUNGLE IF NEEDED*
My 3rd item is Rod of Ages. This Item greatly helps Brand with his mana issues, and Squishiness. With mana, AP, and HP, you can't go wrong with this item. *Try to get it ASAP after boots to max it's stacks*
My 4th item is Morello's Evil Tome. THIS ITEM IS GREAT! IT will give you a bit of extra ability power, but what you really want it for is the CDR and Mana Regen. This item should keep you full of mana if your RoA is fully charged. the CDR is just enough for your deadly combos too.
My 5th item is Rylai's Crystal Scepter. This item will increase your ability power slightly, and it will also help your Squishiness, but the big reason for this item is the passive! ALL of your spells will slow the enemy!! Think of it like an Icy-Hot sort of thing...
My 6th item is void's staff. This item may not be too great if the enemy isn't stacking resist, but Brand does scale off of Magic Pen, so this item is very common for him.
My final item is Rabadon's Death Cap. I sell my Doran's Ring, and add the final Punch to my build. This will complete your balance of damage to survivability(HP + Slow).

YOU ARE NOW A MONSTER. Combo your attacks right, and you should be able to wreck anyone.

Brand is very unique with his skills & passive.

At level 1 I always like to get "Q" because it is a good bush-scouting skillshot. The stun is useful for killing/running after a second skill is leveled.
then I like to focus "E" and "W"
"E"-"Q" is the easiest stun, and i find the most affective in a 1v1
"E"-"Q"-"W" --- This should be your main combo for a single target.
"W" > "E" > "Q"
Once you hit 6, and everyother chance, Get "R"
use this at the start of battles, or when everyone is grouped close.

"R"-"E"-"Q"-"W"

TRY and get the AoE with "R" and "E" in group battles.

This is personal preference.
I Like flash for tight situations.
I STRONGLY RECOMMEND IGNITE. - Ignite combined with Brand's Passive HITS HARD!

*BE SURE TO CHANGE MASTERIES WITH CHANGE OF SUMMONER SPELLS*

PROS-
Great Nuker
Good Survivability (for a caster)
Great for team fights

CONS-
VERY SLOW
while on Cool-Down you are useless
Must hit all spells for the combo to work

In team fights try to get the "R" and "E" AoE's as much as you can.

try and stay in the lane as much as possible

Do not waste mana on creeps, unless you have your RoA or other items to keep your mana for high for fights.

If you can afford to use it then focus a group of creeps with "W" then hit them again with "E". This should wipe out the targeted area.
