Introduction

Irelia can be a great dps character, and is great at ganking and killing those that try and get away from the jaws of death. Though perhaps the biggest flaw with her, is her survivability. there are many guides which make irelias which can take a lot of punishment. this isn't one of them. This build focuses on killing them before they kill you. eventually, the lifesteal combined with your insane damage will help your survivability anyway, but it still isn't enough to have a lot of survivability. though lacking in health, with this build, irelia can chase down and kill 9 out of 10 characters in a 1 v 1, and can hold her own in a team fight, as long as you dont charge in expecting to kill everyone and come out the other side. if anyone knows a build which can do that, plz tell me, because that would be some kind of miracle.

Runes

i admit, i don't know as much as i could about builds, and this is my first one, feedback would be greatly appreciated. this is what works for me:

Attack speed Marks for that extra bit of speed early game
crit chance Glyphs for that little extra kick
Dodge Chance seals to help a little bit of survivability(also works well with the masteries)
and Attack damage Quints for the little extra force behind each blow.

This rune set definately isn't perfect, and i will consider any suggestions you guys might have.

Masteries

I like to build masteries with as much physical damage and armour pen as possible, though it does help to have a bit of dodge chance and armour yourself.

Skill Sequence

No single skill sequence works for everyone, feel free to shake things up a bit depending on your play style. I like to prioritise Bladesurge, as it does an incredible amount of damage when it is high level and you have a lot of attack damage, as well as screwing up an opponents plans of getting away.
I then like to prioritise Equilibrium strike, as when combined with Bladesurge, it can be a potent combination when chasing down enemies.
Hiten Style is next, mostly for the extra bit of hp given whenever you attack, but whenever you use the other two moves, be sure to use Hiten strike to finish them off that bit quicker.
Irelia's Ultimate Transcendant Blades, is fairly useful when your opponents are hiding behind a turret, or running through a wave of minions with ghost. ofcourse, there are many other suitable situations to use it in, but i can't name them all.

When trying to 1 v 1 an opponent, initiate using Bladesurge, followed up with hiten style and equilibrium strike, using Bladsurge whever possible for a bit more damage. also, keep equilibrium strike ready for when you need to escape, or chase a fleeing opponent, for escaping, it's stun is no less than beautiful, and for chasing, in combination with Bladesurge, it is glorious.

Summoner Spells

Summoner spells are, as always, a personal preference, i used to use exhaust Ghost until ghost was nerfed, now ignite is my favourite choice, irelia can be used with most summoner spells within reason, and does not have to be locked down to any particular combo. That being said, if you can't choose which combo to use, i find that using exhaust on a fleeing opponent, when your equilibrium strike is on cooldown, or you cannot reach them, is always effective. Ignite can be used as any other time for any other champion, when they are fleeing on next to no hp and you have to retreat for some reason or other.

Team Work

Team Work with Irelia is fairly important, in that you should NEVER initiate in a fight when the enemy has more than one guy, and you are on your own. the lack of AOE's for irelia, make it near impossible for her to win that kind of fight. that being said, she is often able to kill enemies when they are split up, and you should take the oppurtunity when possible, but do not get greedy, because you will be ganked and killed if they outnumber you!

Summary

I hope that my guide has helped you become a better Irelia, and please remember that any aspects of this build can be modified or improved to suit your personal preferences, and if anyone has any suggestions or tips, i would love to hear them.

now go out there and kill those poor bastards going against irelia.
