Looking at pro build all of them run archangel rather than roa, then lich bane. Thoughts?

A big problem that i have with archangel's is the price difference. RoA currently costs 2600, compared to archangels costing 3200, which is a rather large amount of gold for a support to have to get in a short enough time for it to be effective. This is why i normally go RoA, because i can consistently get it at the 11 - 13 minute mark, where archangels you normally get at the 16 - 17 minute mark. Probuilds shows that players run archangels over roa because they played sona adc, back when sona taric was a thing, and sona had the freedom to farm. As a support, you should not be farming, but only poking with your q and auto attacks, so gold is harder to get.

tldr; its more expensive and slower to build than roa because youre the support, not the adc.

Hope this helps,

~moon

Thanks for this guide! I tried out the build and it worked for me.

There's a lot of work and effort put into this, I could tell while reading it.

Definitely deserves the first spot! keep it up :)

I sometimes find it difficult to complete ROA soon. I feel like I am giving up a lot building this before Lich Bane. How soon do you think you have to complete ROA in this build to be worth it?

The average time for me to complete is about 11-13 minutes, but it allows for you to build lich bane while it scales. So when you complete lich bane, roa will have probably 7 stacks, which gives you a huge power spike.

Hope this helps,

Wow that's quick for ROA. For me it's been a few minutes slower than that. I definitely see it being useful getting it that quick.

Incredibly well done guide!

You researched a lot about Sona to make this guide, this is one of (if not the most) important things to have in a guide.

Keep this guide up to date, it's already (at least for me) one of the top guides!
See ya!

Probably should be noted that you can't equip ancient coin line and the spelltheif's edge line at the same time.

Hello moon827!
i like how you think, carrying team with support very nice idea, cause enemy will take it easily they will think that you are weak cause you are playing support, but when you kill them few times they will get afraid of you just need to be carefull of cc, very nice idea.

what is a better build AP or support?

and when to switch from AP Sona to Support Sona?

It depends on the team comp. If your team is heavily lacking ap (something like Yasuo, Ezreal, Rengar, Riven) then you need to take ap sona. Otherwise its totally whatever you feel like playing, unless your team is already ap heavy (something like Ziggs, Evelynn, Kai'Sa, Teemo) then you would need to take support sona. Neither build is better than the other, and it honestly depends on what your team needs for what you build. My only thing to say, is not to switch what build you are using, just commit to one of them and stay with it, unless you are building ap and are massively behind, or are building support and are massively ahead (which in that case you would skip Rod of Ages and go straight from Athene's Unholy Grail to Lich Bane).

Hope this helps clarify things,

~moon

Great guide. Really liked the detail you put into it going through combat tips against the counters. Also loved the depth you went into with the ruins. Excited to see the new changes with season 9 to ruins, will you do an update to this guide with the new ruins once they're out?

Hi, thanks for the feedback!

Yes, i am planning to update my guide when the new runes come out, although the runes dont change sona that much, there are going to some big changes, like the removal of Bone Plating.

Hope this helps clarify some things,

For the support build, I understand that poking is important, but wouldn't it be best to level up your healing a bit faster to keep your adc alive? Or is the amount of damage done by the Q enough?

Sona's heal scales off of ability power. For the support build, most of your healing comes from Athene's Unholy Grail in the early game, which gives you more ap based on how much bonus mana regen you have, which you get more of when building items, like Ardent Censer and Redemption. The reason you max Hymn of Valor first is to get more damage on your poke, which will get you to max athene's stacks quicker, therefore giving you a stronger heal. It is better to get a strong burst heal and do a bit more damage at the same time over having a heal scale gradually without any damage to back up athene's.

I hope this helps clarify things,

~moon

Oh that does make sense, thank you. I was just confused as to why she needed such strong poke but since it combines to make her healing better, it's basically like strengthening both at once. Thank You
