THEORYCRAFTING - PATCH 8.17

With this patch being a fresh rework of the champ, this guide is likely to change regularly and quite frankly, I might just get it wrong. It has begun as a short guide so you at least have a framework, and as I jam more games on it I will revise and extend the ideas in here accordingly. If you have new ideas or suggestions, feel free to PM me and thanks as always for reading!

Early Game

Between Relic Shield Consume and Biscuit Delivery you have a ton of terrific options available for maintaining health while helping farm waves. Refillable Potion is a solid first-back purchase to help this (just do not neglect buying Control Ward. The big goals I see here that are a bit different than some tanky supports is that you will be well-rewarded to prioritize mobility given the massive amount of CC in Nunu & Willump's kit - this is easily the biggest reason why I got incredibly excited about the trailers leading up. There is so much room I think to support a team heavily if you are prudent in build and see opportunities to start fights with advantages. As early as level 2, you have a knock-up AND a really hard chomp, which plays well into a jungle gank for a kill. If you have the chance, take it!

Mid Game

Shurelya's Battlesong is a must-buy early item for Nunu & Willump. This shores up every key stat they have, including the most easily missed one, mana. Having that sustain lets you fully participate in every fight until the end of the game, making each successive buy that much more meaningful because the weaknesses are shored up. The additional movement speed of Shurelya's Battlesong means that a fully-charged Biggest Snowball Ever! travels nearly 1/3rd the length of a lane between the speed boost, the 8-second duration, and the additional 3 seconds after it is released. That can be one very big surprise for the opposing team to initiate a fight from 3 screens away!

Apart from this, Redemption ends up also being very valuable as you initiate because you can snowball in, chaining your CC abilities and as the enemy team looks to take you out, an early Redemption gives your team permission to engage knowing they have a heal coming in 2.5 seconds, along with of course the 10% true damage to enemies inside the Redemption AoE.

Late Game

With all weaknesses shored up, you have a ton of options depending on the enemy team composition for what to build later on. There are several terrific options both in base health and MR scaling - if they want to load the box with AP, you're happy to follow-suit with your own AP plus MR, which they definitely won't be building as AP carries. Similarly between your health and damage reduction effects on certain items, you'll have tankiness late. But the damage can get just unreal later on as well, especially as you chain your W into E into R - easily spiking over 1,200 damage on your ult as an AoE - you will kill many, many things with some strong teamwork. The biggest thing here is that once you have team members nearby, ping that you're going in and then GO without hesitation. Be the initiator and leave the other team pointing fingers at who inted as you take their Nexus!
