Introduction

Introduction

This is a guide for Varus Varus the new AD Carry that was released 5-8-12. This will be my first guide on Mobafire so It won't look good as the other guide people post here while I'm still learning. I tried my best and put a lot of effort into this guide!

Varus has an amazing long poke with his and has an AoE snare with his

Masteries

Masteries

These masteries will give you the most damage outcome with the most survivability. Since I run instead of you don't need to put a point in and put the point in . I like to put a point in to get extra heal from my summoner spell.

Runes

Runes

  • Greater Quintessence of Attack Damage: BiS- Best in slot for any AD Carry. Gives you good damage early game to last hit and to harass at level 1.
  • Greater Mark of Attack Damage or greater mark of desolation: Same goes for your quintessence. It will you great damage early game. It's really up to the player if they want to run Attack Damage or Armor Pen Marks. I like Attack damage marks though.
  • Greater Glyph of Armor: BiS- Gives you more survivability early game and so you won't get 3 shots at level 1. Without this you will have 14-16 armor about and you get 10 armor pen from masteries so to them you would have 4 armor. That's not good at all. NEVER stack Attack Damage runes. I see so many people do it to AP Champions. It's not worth it at all. If your opponent is smart enough to realize you have 14 armor then don't expect to farm very freely in the lane.
  • Greater Seal of Scaling Magic Resist: Helps you for late game when team fighting so you won't be as squishy.

Summoner Spells

Summoner Spells

[Flash]: A must have for almost all champions! Can be use to get over walls. Can be use to secure a kill or use it as a escape.
space
[Heal]: Since its very popular for AD Carries to run heal now and the support to run . It's for extra sustain in a lane and can be use as a offense or defense summoner spell.
space
[Cleanse]: If their team has HARD Crowd Control then you should get this or if you are laning vs a Vayne Alistar bot lane comp.

Varus Skill Explanation

Ability Explanation

  • Living Vengeance:On champion kill or assist, Varus gains 40% attack speed for 6 seconds.
On minion kill, Varus gains 20% attack speed for 3 seconds
    Pretty self-explanatory there.

  • Piercing Arrow (Q):(First Cast): Varus starts drawing back his next shot, gradually increasing its range and damage.
(Second Cast): Varus fires, dealing physical damage, reduced by 15% per enemy hit (minimum 33%).
While preparing to shoot, Varus cannot autoattack or use abilities, and his movement speed is slowed by 20%. After 4 seconds, Piercing Arrow fails but refunds half its mana cost.
On your first cast you will see your range circle increase gradually overtime and the second time you cast it will shoot the arrow. Pretty simple right? The longer you cast it, the harder it hits and further it goes. While casting it you can move around but you are 20% slower.

  • Blighted Quiver (W):(Passive): Varus' basic attacks deal bonus magic damage and apply Blight for 6 seconds (stacks 3 times).
Varus' other abilities detonate Blight, dealing magic damage equal to a percentage of the target's maximum health per stack. This damage is capped against monsters.
Pretty much like Vayne, and Kog'Maw W's. Your auto-attacks will add a purple circle around the enemy champion or minions and once you use a skill on the champion/minion it will pop and deal magic damage equal to the targets maximum health per stack.

  • Hail of Arrows (E):Varus fires a hail of arrows that deals physical damage and desecrates the ground for 4 seconds.
Desecrated Ground reduces healing effects by 50% and slows enemy movement speed.
Its an AoE slow + Ignite. Which is awesome! Does a lot of damage for being a CC surprisingly.

  • Chain of Corruption (R):Varus flings out a tendril of corruption that deals magic damage and immobilizes the first enemy champion hit for 2 seconds.
The corruption then spreads towards nearby uninfected enemy champions, applying the same damage and immobilize if it reaches them. The corruption will continue to spread until there are no further unaffected targets in range
It's pretty much an AoE snare if the enemies are standing right next to each other. It will slowly switch targets near the champion and snaring them to place.

Ability Sequence Order

Ability Sequence Order

> > >

Pretty much you want to max your because its your ultimate common sense. as your second priority because it's your main damage source other than your auto attack. You wanna get one point in belighted quiver early since no one would have that much health early game and then max it last. Your is your third priority skill to level up.

Items

Items

  • :A must have item for all AD carries. Gives you Mobility and Attack Speed. Can't say no to that.
  • :Gives you amazing sustain and does incredible damage! Especially when it has full stacks. Note: This item can be stacked because the passive is not unique.
  • :Pretty much for mandatory for AD Carries. Gives you a lot of Attack Speed and Crit chance.
  • :Gives you good damage and armor pen. Good against team that's getting some armor items.
  • :Great damage and has a strong passive which increases your crit damage.
  • :A very good item for your last item slot in case you get focus down and die you will revive and get right back in the fight.
Early - Mid - Late - Situational
Early items

My standard start is usually boot of speed and 3
You can also start with but only if you have a support with sustain ( Sona, Soraka, Taric, and Alistar)

Your first back you can either get two or another and boot of speed. It depends which starting items you started with.

From there you want to start working on your and upgrade your boots to If you won your lane and are up then you can get your . If you are behind then you should get

By Late mid game you should already have or

After you get your /inifinity edge you want to build your . After your PD you want to check if the enemy team is stacking armor. If they have at least one armor item then get if not then you can build your second item. It would be the either the or inifinity edge depending what you didn't get first.

Situation Items

For AD Carries there is only really two items to choose from. It would be either
or .

You would want to get if you are just getting straight focus and dying.

If you aren't getting focus to hard but getting cc pretty hard from like a Warwick ultimate or Amumu ultimate then would be a good pick.

If both situation are happening then you should sell your and get both of these!

Farming

Farming with Varus can be easy. If you have a passive support like soraka for example I usually would start with . It makes last hitting so much easier. Never Auto Attack Minions! It will just push your lane and make yourself vulnerable to a gank from their jungler. If you don't know how to last hit there's a ton of videos or guide to show you how. Each champion has a different animation when it comes to last hitting so you will have to learn it for all the champions you play.

Farming should be your main priority though in laning phase. Never pick harassing over farming. If you have an aggressive support like or then just focus on farming and wait for them to initiate then you can follow up with them and attack the enemies.

Team Fights

When team fighting you want to position yourself in the back so you don't get focus right away and wait for your tanks or whoever to initiate the fight for you and pop your ultimate on the focusing target that your team is focusing and then to slow them and Auto attack to death and use to poke through multiple champions or to chase a champion down.

If someone is out of position on your team and you have your team with you, you can initiate with your for the team then after picking that guy off you guys could go get drag or baron since they are a man down.

Make sure everyone is buying wards if they have room. ITS NOT THE SUPPORT JOB TO sight ward EVERYWHERE. Everyone HAS to buy wards not just the support. Vision will win you games always.

Summary

Varus can be a scary carry if it's put in the right hands. He has a strong LONG RANGE poke and has a lot of utilities. It will take some time to learn him and his abilities but he's a fun champion. His ult is game changer just because its an AoE snare.

This is the conclusion of my first ever Mobafire guide and I hope you guys enjoy! Please give me feedback on what I can improve on for my next guide! Thanks! :)
