Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
So this is my guide to how i play Xerath. In my opinion he should take mid and nuke the living hell out of the enemy and get pretty fed. It is actually pretty easy to get fed when playing Xerath. Remember to have someone fill in mid lane when u go and help because ppl love to backdoor turrets while youre away.
I chose this skill sequence (not really sure if thats the order because i make this after the game). So your Q is your bread and butter skill. Your E will help u stun and your W will help you harrass and get your kills
Q - Your Q has a pretty good range and consistant dmg . Harrass your enemies with it.
W - Your signature range increase and magic pen increase. Use this to help u stun and finish off your enemies. If youre in a tight spot and have enough time to activate this skill twice it will give u a significant amount of mov spd for you to get away.
E - A big part of your combo. It can deal dmg and causes your next skill to stun the target.
R - My opinion one of the best ults. Has components of Kog'maw ult that allows you to land a hit and long range and allows u 3 hits. You can use this as the final skill in your combo or a skill to deal tons of dmg and maybe get you your kill.
Your job in the team is to nuke and deal dmg your team should keep you well protected while you nuke because you are still a mage an AP caster and you are still a bit more squishy than others even though u are less squishy than other AP casters due to your passive. While you nuke since your ult is only about 60 second CD without CD reduction you can feel free to use it as a finishing move after you stun your target with E-Q-R or W-E-Q-R. these 2 are great combos that deal a tonload of damage. When i use this combo i usually get my kills.
The way i play Xerath is staying in lane for first few lvls till u get your ult so u can start getting more kills. Before you get your ult u should keep harrasing with W-E-Q and some basic attacks . While you are harrasing u might even get some kills. After you get your ult you should start getting more kills by using the skill combo W-E-Q-R and it usually kills your enemy due to the magic penetration. When you think its safe to leave the lane go help out with top or bot lanes that need help. But if your enemy respawned after their death have someone fill in for you incase they try to get the turret.
Here are some of the scores - (first one they surrendered early so only 4 kills =P)
