Uh.... Just sayin? Nunu is not designed to be a tank, as his ult is waaaaay too good to put to waste like that. he is more of an offtank. As for Malphite and shen? you really need a good team to use them. Rammus is the safest, IMO, but not an ideal tank. Pro Amumus are unstoppable with Despair. Blitzcrank kinda falls in the same category as nunu, cept i really dislike blitz.

Amumu is the best tank for the current meta-game due to his ability to AOE stun and completely alter a teamfight while putting out fairly decent amounts of damage to the enemy team as well as being a very strong jungler.
However he is usually first pick to be banned these days so I recommend trying Rammus. He is an insanely good tank and he been receiving small but notable buffs over the last few patches. Check this video for a good build/guide that directly correlates with the recent metagame.

Sorry guys no expiriense of high elo games here , BUT.I think that shen is a great tank! Aoe taunt with a relativly low cd , great ulti and decent dmg and survivability. Hes ki strike gives him dmg hes vorpal gives him good lane control and shield is just a bonus the way i play him(most times i keep my energy for the second taunt instead of spamming the other abilities) . I find rammus great hero overall and latelly i also like drMundo as tank(i wouldnt play a hero made to tank as dps).Tried gragas tank and failed badly many times , only seems to work as a hybrid ap offtank for me.When i buy vlad i will try him as tank with items for magic resist and armor ,probably he will fail, but you never know.I like signed as tank but dont know how he works on harsh conditions :) and udyr . Ofcorse as already said amumu is the best, i love galio too.
Don't completely lose your confidence in Galio. If you really like Galio that much, you should try to adjust to his slight alterations because every champ is changed eventually. He still has the same abilities and I'm sure you have already considered yourself really good with him.

If you want a couple of SOLID tanks which dont get banned too often, or picked, try rammus, or if you are dimitrija, you would go singed... but meh.. Anybody who has some type of CC is great. So Shen, rammus, malphite (especially after buff)
