I for one do not believe that "Shaco the Insane" deserves one hundred whatever points it has.. The only reason it has that many is because it was on the top of the list fast and people rated it since it was on the home page. You sorta have to get lucky with the timing of your build post and hope that no one pushes it off of the home page before anyone sees it.
Remain wasn't lucky at all, someone just looked at his guide, OMG HAX!!!??! Dude? Anyway, you do know that every guide on this site gets views right? When they search up a champion or other guides created with that champion you get views and ultimately you will get +1 if you're guide is really awesome. When Remain posted there was a limit of +6, his came out and bam! +120? No.. it was +3 for a loooooooong time, that +1'ing took ages. More people started to view it and to break that +6 barrier you really have to deserve it, right? Did you do it AnalSamural? Did DEWO do it? Hell, did I do it? No, Remain did it because he ****ing deserves it. Take a look at Zekk's Taric build, compare the two. Zekk vs. Remain. And before you comment, I just want you to know that it's a "popularity scale" which tells you how many people likes it.

Ok, let me explain this for you since its so hard to under stand.
My statement:
"You sorta have to get lucky with the timing of your build post and hope that no one pushes it off of the home page before anyone sees it."
When I used the word "you" I was referring to the original thread creator. So, that means the rest of the statement has nothing to do with Remain's build.
Also, I never said Remain's build was bad- I just said its not actually 10-100 times better than some of the other builds on the site... (100 whatever points)

by the look of your builds, you should be the one to know.

Again with what you did, and what you didn't say...
which you actually did, but didn't mean too -> is that so hard to understand?
PS: I have nothing against you, and I don't really care about Remain.

Ok guys, let's calm down :) This is devolving somewhat.
Both the homepage and voting system have some issues. The two top lists on the homepage do not fairly give visibility to newer builds, neither does the browse page when sorting by certain fields. As such, early builds that climbed to the top may be more difficult to surpass. That's not to say they don't deserve their recognition, but there may be newer builds that also deserve such representation.
We have an update coming out shortly which, among other things, adds an optional age limit to the information on the home page and browse page, to help give new builds a better fighting chance. We are also adding new features to promote our all-time best builds, to give the older builds the respect they deserve.
Not all of the features will make it in this update but hopefully it will help to keep everyone happy :)

Everybody! Don't Forget To Check out Some of My Beatboxing @ www.youtube.com/heatbbx and give me that +rep if i helped you out :)
The highest rated builds will constantly get +'ed. The guides had to be at least good to get to the point where they are not going to disapear from top list. This is somhow a flaw since after some time new guides will have realy hard job reaching that many comments coz of the time the old ones are there. Other thing is that if they work good, and are constantly updated it is ok to let them be like this, other thing is when they get outdated or something.
Remain made a "good" guide. He got some 1'es. He was nice and so on, so ppl +1'ed his guide becouse they had no reason of -1'ing it. That + time it is here on the site = ALOT of rating.
Other thing is that if we change to % based things, ppl with alot of ratings (not only +1'ed ones - like my guides) will be knocked down coz of new build that got 5x +1 and no -1. It will be a 100% against a build which is 60% but it has 200 votes. Even if we implement things like a vote pool, it will still be unfair for the old guides and so on so on so on.
It would be nice to post a sollution to a "problem" of high rated guides getting "free" +1's instead of flaming eachother.

This is why we are adding these range limits, to help give a chance to new builds and to allow people to filter out builds that may be outdated. We may also add a patch filter, and allow people to update their builds to the latest patch so they don't get filtered out.
This is also why we are considering normalized scores. With a normalized score, a build with 50 votes could compete with a build that has 200 votes, provided the +/- ratios are better. We would have to account for the fact that one + vote would give it a normalized score of 100%, but there are ways to deal with that.
How do you guys feel about normalized scores?

Maybe not a percentage normalized score, but perhaps it tells you how many + votes there are versus - votes. For example, "Rating: 5 of 7" Meaning there are seven votes, and five of them are plus.

We had considered throwing out down-votes altogether so every build has a positive score, and all that matters is how many people "like" your build. We didn't really like losing that information though. We could track them but just ignore them for the sake of sorting and display like you said, so that negative votes don't look so bad or matter so much, but you can still see them. So now we have three possibilities.
Example: 80 votes total, 60+ and 20-
Current method: display is "40", sort value is "40"
Downplaying -votes: display is "60 out of 80", sort value is "60"
Normalized: display is "75%", or 3.75 stars out of 5, or whatever other scale, sort value is "0.75"

I wonder why it was on the top of the list fast... oh right, as you noted, I was lucky.
I wonder why I got lucky with just my 1 guide, compared to your 5 guides, whereas 2 of them were posted before mine.
I'm glad a good attitude comes along with the sites "best build creator." No one was flaming until you came in, so hope you get some points for that too.
I never said it was all contributed to luck. That comment was actually more directed to the OP, because he felt like no one was rating-- I thought it may be perhaps no one saw it since so many builds come in every day. How about we think things through next time we post eh?
