OK so im coming up on another 6300 IP. I play three positions mainly, mid, jungle, and support. So my question is, for raising ELO, what champ for what role would be best to get/get good with?

MID:
Syndra
Xerath
Elise

Jungle:
Nautilus
Zed
Rengar

OR should i save my money and buy the mermaid when she comes out?

Here is my reasoning for a few of these:

Syndra has a good kit and potential. However I don't see her often (or frankly at all). Is there a reason I don't see her? Is she not that good? Or is she simply a challenge to perfect so not many people bother with her, but those that do annihilate people?
Xerath I know is not seen AT ALL. But everything about his kit tells me he has great potential to be a super powerful late game tank with alot of damage. Being that he is never seen, people have no clue how to deal with him. So if i get good with him, ill be able to dunk mids.
Elise ive played her, she seems fun and very versatile with alot of utility.

Nautilus I remember when he was a death sentence walking into your lane. and pretty much nothing has changed since. The new jungle won't hit him that hard (i dont think) seeing as how he is a single target tank anyway with some decent aoe on his AAs.
Zed i've been watching people play him and his burst/escape/chase seems crazy powerful.
Rengar I see him banned fairly frequently, and for good reason. He is a good jungler. Very good. but how will the new jungle affect him? Will he be as powerful, or get hit way too hard to be worth while any more?

Need some gold member opinions here! Thanks in advance!

I'd say Syndra, but I'm biased:

Reasons: great poke and kill potential in lane, nice ganker, decent peel, and I don't find her THAT hard to play. She does well against good old FotY Katarina, as well as pretty much any short ranged mage (Ryze, TF, Swain and Ahri if you're careful, gragas, Annie etc). Gap closers mess her up (Fizz, Diana, Akali).

Also, since she can dominate lots of lanes, she's a nice S3 candidate if the pressure from lanes really is relieved.

Only thing that annoys me when I play her is that my team mates hardly ever recognize her stun -.-
Thank you Tsuki for the sig!

Couldn't you just... learn good champions for this stuff? Zed is a pile of rubbish in jungle, Rengar is better for top, and Nautilus is going to suck with the jungle remake. Elise is an awful champion for mid lane, Syndra is highly situational and Xerath is the same.

Nautilus is getting buffed a bit and Stonewall stated that thanks to Machete he's gonna be even better than now, so I don't have a single idea why you would say that Naut gonna suck. Test it before you spit such judgements.

I don't find Syndra that situational, you simply don't first pick her like you don't first pick any other mage unless you want to get countered. She is an aggressive roamer as well, and when team's start to gather, unless they have an ultra initiator like Amumu or Hecarim you can help keeping them at bay easily.

Also, I'm sure The Overmyynd already has a nice set of champions.

About Zed, he's good mid, and pretty much on of the best Anti-Katarina options atm.
Thank you Tsuki for the sig!

Yeah I have about half or a little more of the champs. My better mids include:
Swain
Gragas
Veigar
Brand
Zyra
Ryze
Talon
Fizz
Vladimir
Jungle, I need to expand a bit on. Right now I almost exclusively play Maokai, but I own Nocturne, Amumu, Malphite, Nunu, Kha'Zix, Jax, Skarner. Been meaning to get good with all of those but I find myself wanting to WIN when I play so i tend to stick with what I know wins me games. Jungle Mao. So yes. I have enough champs to effectively counter about every other champ, I just need more variety and champs the enemy team isn't used to seeing so I can dunk easier.

Get Zed for midlane. He's like Talon, but better because he doesn't have mana costs and he has longer poke.

EDIT: He's also a really good assassin because he has the "look before you leap" with Living Shadow.

this Zed is an amazing mid lane D: every time ive played against or with one that goes mid he just wrecks in lane, he has one of the most annoying escapes, hes untargettable when he uses his ult for a few seconds which i hate, and he has good range like lugi said
