'Breaking the meta' is fine in normal games. Play however you want if you're que'd up with your friends. I'd be hesitant to try anything too unorthodox with strangers or god forbid in ranked.
The meta is what it is because it gives a team the best chance to win the game. If there was some other way you could play that would lead to more victories, serious teams would adopt it and it would become meta.
C9 won so many of their games this season because they used Korean meta strategies in the NA scene. Fast push towers became meta in NA because it was proven to be a very strong strategy. They even had to buff towers early.
When you are looking to 'break the meta' with your friends don't worry about crazy champions or lane configurations. Try strategies that will improve your chances of winning the game. For example, play a game with your friends and try to see how early you can sneak a dragon or a baron. Who knows in 6 months maybe something you develop will become 'meta'.
