Garen ****s on melee top champs who just want to sit and farm (nasus for example). He does enough damage early that he can zone out people like that, and keep on zoning them if he builds some damage before health.
Late game, he doesn't really have much utility, so you just run in, spin, and stick to their carry (since you do damage and won't die).

People laugh at you for picking Garen because you can faceroll the keyboard and still win with him. He's the definition of a no-skill champ. I only ever pick Garen to go Ignite/Exhaust and grief the other team with constant **** talk and kills. It's hilarious. The last time I played I hadn't used him for like 2 months and it was duo top with me and lux. I got a double kill on a turret dive at level 3 and finished up like 16 and 4.

The thing is, basically no one does this. So Garen stays strong and ppl call him OP.
That's right.
I try to spread awareness though, expressing the simple counter ^_^

Mmmmkay. I'll just troll my way to victory against all Garens I suppose ^_^

I don't really feel any of this is accurate in my personal experience :/

I don't agree with this in the slightest.
Linear champions like Garen are some of the hardest to play well against clever and ready opponents.

Imo you could put Garen in the same sort-of role as a tanky Riven, where he can get into the mix, soak damage, and put out a fair amount of AoE DPS, but riven just does it better because of how well she can scale into late, combined with her multi-target stuns and mobility during a fight, rather than just going into and coming out of one.
Basically, imo he's easy to use overall, but hard to use effectively against people who know what they're doing.

But only against Garens, Malzahars are still OP for you early game
Right.
Except I have my 34 MR rune page.
So actually no, they're not too bad either. Hmmm.

Yyyyerp. And the same page counters them both >:D
However, Riven imo is better than garen.

I agree with this a lot actually.
If you are playing garen against someone who knows what you can do, it's hard to get anything done.

lol, you sure arent a cho'gath player

1. Garen's spin radius is larger than that of Rupture, and Cho'Gath's Model is bigger than garen's.
2. Feral Scream is a cone, you have to do less sidestepping in order to avoid it in melee range, period.
3. This is how you beat garen, armor runes are huge, leveling up spikes = he loses trades.
4. You do, Cho's sustain is a lot larger than garens, if he goes to use his passive, he IS losing CS.
Tri lane for life.

Yeap to all the above.
"Easy" (Linear) champions become progressively harder to succeed with the farther you go in terms of Elo.

Played Malphite against Garen... Dropped his panties, spanked him on the hiney, then told him to spin elsewhere, learn from Wukong at least. Kill-stealer like a boss though.
Malphite Bot, insane ks
