I already brought a similar point up with Nighthawk with caits Q. Yes it can increas your dmg but it can also do the opposit so it will be left out for any calculation as it is no sort constant of DPS.
You tell me to not compare the dmg of the carrys while pointing only stuff of their utility out.
Just because a champ is you favorite it does not mean he is the best.

The reason people bring up utility, defense, and all kinds of other things as well as damage is because you need a lot to do that damage. If you are melee, you need some form of defense so you can stay alive long enough to kill. If you have a ******ed amount of damage and no utility, you are completely useless by yourself. You have to rely on others for utility so you can put out damage. The champions that can deal damage AND keep themselves alive (or halt the enemy long enough) are always going to be more useful in every aspect of the game.
More on topic: I have always loved Tristana. She has always been my favourite ranged AD Carry because she has plenty of utility and a ton of damage. She has always been my first choice if I have to play a ranged AD Carry. I can slightly compare her and Caitlyn because they each have similar escape mechanisms and good range. Caitlyn has her own wards, but her Ult is extremely disappointing on most ocassions...
After Tristana, I would have to say Corki or Teemo (such an awesome sneaky little bastard with so much utility, especially useful with Cass on your team).

I found out on accident yesterday 
Kennen has no real counters because of his lane viability.
If they counter pick you in mid, you can always go top. If you get countered there, bot.
If the other team wants 5 champions that counter him, then it's k because your team can almost freely choose their champions.

I could think of quite a few champions that have great lane viability everywhere, not too many though.

The reason why Kennen is so effective, his stuns. The regular AD-carries usually got a attack speed steroid or something that scales good with AD, Kennen has neither (except the decent W passive). But being able to constantly stun his target and still dealing high damage makes him really dangerous vs low health/defence targets.
You can't really compare him with Twitch and Caitlyn since they are not created to work the same way.
- Twitch, rely on positioning and his attack speed buff.
- Caitlyn, long range and her ability to kite
- Kennen, mobility, constant stuns, shutting down champions
