New Option for Comment to Vote

In this thread, there has been discussion about the current C2V system. I added my thoughts to the discussion and, while it hasn't had a ton of feedback, those that have commented on it seem encouraging so I thought I would post it here.

The solution I see to the current arguments about the C2V feature as it is now is to make it where the C2V feature is on at all times, not just for the first 20 votes. This could just be another option like the current C2V option. Now for the part that would separate this feature from what was done in the past. The comments which were required for voting could be put in a separate area for the author to see, privately messaged to him/her, etc. ALSO, the commentor's name would not be included. It would be completely anonymous. This way, the author still gets feedback on their guide, and the voters don't have to worry about backlash/revenge-votes for their vote.

Again, this solution wouldn't necessarily knock out the troll votes since some may see it as a way troll without getting caught. HOWEVER, it would allow more voters to freely express their criticism of the guide without the fear of their own guides being trolled by another simply for what they suggested. I personally feel that there will be a significant increase in the amount of people who will votes on guides then. This will then make it where guides' scores are more able to truly reflect the effectiveness of the guide.

New Requirement for Making Guides

Let me start by saying that I am well aware that Mobafire is a website by the people, for the people. But let's face it, there are some here who try to contribute that don't have a clue. I know that other sites which promote guides and strategies for LoL sometimes only allow pros, admins, etc. to be the ones to creates guides and stuff. To me, this takes away from wanting to provide input since they will more than likely just shrug me off as some noob. That is what I like about Mobafire. This site allows people to freely give the community their guides, strategies, etc. without censoring them due to how well known they are, their skills, etc.

The problem with this is that there are many guides here in the community that are pretty out there at best. Then when these guides get upvotes by people with multiple accounts and so forth, they begin to show up among the higher rated guides. When new users come to Mobafire looking for strategy guides and builds and see these builds that are pretty much unviable but are ranked among the top guides, it reflects badly on the community and the site.

Here it what I suggest doing. There is already a promotion system based on Rep. Why not make it where users MUST obtain a set amount of Rep prior to being allowed to submit builds, guides, etc? Before you say that this would deter people from wanting to get involved since it would take work to get to where one could submit guides, take a minute to think about what it would do for the community.

If this was done, guides would only be submitted by people who received a certain amount of Rep which means that others in the community view them as being a positive member of the community. Also, it would encourage more people to get involved in the forums, criticism of guides, and so forth in order to obtain the Rep they need to get their builds out.

Now I'm not saying make it a level of Rep like 500 where only people who have been here a long time can contribute. That would take away significantly from the "by the people, for the people" atmosphere that this site has. Rather, make it a fairly low amount of Rep, whether that is 25, 50, or even 100. It would help to encourage more people to get involved.

Let me end by saying that these are just things that I feel might help positively impact the community. If you have thoughts on any of the things that I suggested, please feel free to post it here and let me know. I'm always happy to hear what others think, regardless of whether it goes along with what I think.

You realize that the whole "alt account for more votes" could be applied to the Rep system as well if you opt to try for the "X rep to submit guides" approach.

The big thing about MOBA is that anyone can submit guides. There is no discrimination on them. When people see bad guides, they'll probably vote it down. That doesn't prevent a terrible guide from getting to first place and staying there though but we are certainly trying our hardest to get quality guides to the top.

EDIT:100 is a fairly high rep ceiling. Did you mean 10 perhaps?

Meh, Rep is mostly a popularity contest anyway. 100 is way too high too.

Yes, I realize that someone could make an alt account to farm Rep or whatever, but it would still cut down on how often people do it. Alot of people who just throw a guide together to see how it does in the rankings are lazy and wouldn't go to that kind of effort (looks good in theory anyway).

To your next point, I know that the big thing about Mobafire is the ability for anyone to submit guides. However, if we were to implement a system where it requires people to positively contribute even a small amount to the community prior to submitting their own guides, then I think it would positively impact the community in a huge way.

Yes, I did mean 100 Rep. In retrospect, it is too high. However, I feel that 10 is too low. I would say that 25 Rep would be a good number to go with since it isn't very high but still requires a fair amount of positive effort. I wasn't necessarily trying to come up with the number on my own. That's up to the admins should they choose to implement this.

The thing is that people are constantly saying that they wish more people would contribute to the community. I'm just trying to figure out a way to do that, while at the same time possibly cut back on a few of the troll/bad guides which some people view as highly detrimental to our community.

The whole "Rep to Submit a Guide" concept, in my opinion, encourages people to get out there and have a positive impact in the community which will in turn give Mobafire a better reputation among the other sites.

Rep was implemented to be a way to reward those who positively impacted the community. Yes, those with more popularity usually receive Rep easier than others, but the reason it was implemented in the first place remains the same.

Your second sentence is covered in the response to Lugignaf.

Don't agree with the idea. Makes no sense from a website management perspective.

This is a League of Legends guide making/viewing website first, and a forum second.

This.

The entire point of the site is that it is open to everyone, they don't even have to register to make a guide.

[sarcasm]
I'm sorry, Duff. I guess I missed the part where one could only gain Rep and have a positive impact through the forum side of this site.

Nowhere in my suggestion did I say that people should be excluded. What I am saying is that, prior to people being allowed to make guides, they should show that they have positively contributed to the growing of this community and thus become a part of it instead of just creating an account and *poof* they're all-knowing.

I just feel like anyone who wants to make a guide should be able to make one.

If someone joins this site just to make a guide, keep it up to date and respond to comments/questions that other people post, then that's fine. No one should be forced to help others with their guides or be an active member on the forums.

Hey cool, I love sarcasm.

See what I did there?

I think it's a bad idea. Sorry if I don't like your idea, it's not like I'm punching you in the stomach or something.
