I think stonewall reccommends AS on everything simply because you'll hit **** faster. It makes sense on Udyr/WW/Xin jungling all who have life steal or gaining abilities...From experience though BL stacks rely on Critting....Starting with 10% CrC from passive mathematically speaking it's 1 in 10 swings you crit meaning to get BL stacked fully stacked it would take you 40 swings. For my Tryn build I can hit level 3 roughly 1 minute after creep camps spawn...So 1:55 is creep spawns I'm 3 by 2:55 or 3:00 minutes flat...That's with 10% CrC in runes (22% total from passive+masteries+runes) and an additonal 10-20% from green pot. Not many people like to start with the Agi pot, i do though. It's all in my build, I need to update it past the simple revamp I did. But for the most part my theory and play are there.
Stonewall also aims for the fastest clear time not the safest. I found that jungling Nasus, at least one AS Quint makes the jungle a whole lot safer.

How is ganking with Trynda/late game compared to shaco?
Ganks for Tryn Positives:
Gap closer with spinning slash
"AoE" slow with mocking shout (if people turn to run)
If you keep your BL stacks up before you go into a gank you're in pretty good shape.
Cons: Your initate with Spinning slash (if you initiate with it) deprives you of your built in escape mechanic, meaning you're vulnerable to a counter gank. Unless you start critting ASAP.
Mocking shout has a directional requirement, pretty much boning you if you waste it and they aren't facing the correct way.
Ganking with Shaco Positives:
You have a stealth which is a great way to initate on someone.
You may have red buff or 2 shiv poison. Neither of which require your target to face a certain direction to disable them.
Attacking from behind means you automatically hit harder.
Cons:
Your initate is also your escape mechanism on a rather long cool down.
You're squishie with no way to steal health (until mid game)if someone engages you or tries to counter gank you.
You're mana dependant which is bad if you need to...Well use an ability to escape or secure the kill.
Late games Tryn: Probably the best duelist in game if built properly for late game. However his performance in team fights can be rather poor. People tend to focus him instantly (which is what they should do IMO)
Late game Shaco: If you're good you're unkillable....Nuff said I think about shaco.
I myself run AS runes on Nocturne.
AS Reds, Armour Yellows, MR/AS Blues, ArP Quints.
I just essentially rush a Brutalizer, and I don't need any AS items at all, late game.
Funnily enough, I'm currently on the finishing touches of my jungle Nocturne guide. I'll link you when I'm done :)

Pros have different concepts of what works and what doesn't because in their level of play their priorities differ. Pros make suggestions on ways of playing/itemizing at 2k Rating and above, I've always thought what works for a pro in a ranked game at 2250 rating doesn't mean someone at 1250 rating is going to be unkillable with an identical build at the lower ranking. Honestly ArP/Armor/AS/CDR works well on most junglers too. Just depends on how you roll I suppose.

CRC = crit chance?
Coz Stonewall's guide to trynda jungle is full AS runes
Yeah. CrC = Crit Chance.
Though Stonewall did say full AS runes, you only lose like 5-10s MAX, and CrC runes help you out SO much more as well as in the jungle. Your ganks, AND late game will be SO much more potent!
