Going off what duff said. Wait till your at full energy and have 3 stacks of shadow dance. Cast your q, wait for q to come back up, use ulti. Burst like crazy and keep on repeating the combo till you have a dead enemy. Throw one or 2 Es in there. But be careful you might run out of energy for your q>r combo if you abuse your e.
Just fyi I haven't played akali in 4 months. So this combo might not be as effective as it used to be. Maybe now you can go all out and spam your E without fear of running out of energy. Or maybe you can't get 3 Q>R combos in quick succession anymore.I dunno. Try it out.
Also it helps if you have a dedicated rune page for Akali. Sole reason why I don't play Akali anymore. Too stingy with my ip to spend so much ip on a rune page only one character will ever use.

One thing no one mentioned is that runes are very important for Akali, more so than on most champions. You need to get enough AD and AP to have both of her passives at level 1 with boots start. I can give you an exact page if you want.

Byrun's guide is pretty good. He and I do some things different but it's fine.

The truth is, you only have 2 spells on Akali. Q and R.
Shroud should not be used unless you're escaping, and E should not be used unless you're not going to kill without it, or to sustain with your passive+spellvamp. Those are your two scenarios.

You also need proper runes and masteries and these are the general ones that Westrice and a couple of high elo Akali players use that allow them to have double passive proc while starting boots 4 pot at level one. Every Akali player has their own feel and playstyle so these runes and masteries fluxuate and change a lot. The below are my preferences though.

Reds:
7 Greater Mark of Strength +.95 AD each
2 Greater Mark of Insight +.95 MPen each
Yellow:
9 Greater Mark of Insight +1.41 Armor each
Blue:
9 Greater Mark of Potency +.99 AP each
Quints:
2 Greater Quintessence of Potency +4.95 AP each
1 Greater Quintessence of Fortitude +26HP each
AD reds for passive proc, two magic pen reds because any more AD would be over kill and Mpen maximizes damage that you'll need later. Armor for yellows because you often go top and the majority of top laners are AD so Armor mitigates a lot of damage. At level 6, you better be towerdiving for kills. Armor will help you out quite a lot. Flat AP Blue and Quints give you necessary burst damage and passive proc. +26 HP Quint helps you out in lane and when you dive a tower. Mix and match these runes to your playstyle but try to grab both passives at Level 1.

Pretty aggressive mastery page while allowing you to have double passive procs at level 1 and giving you a healthy amount of damage whatever stage of the game -- early, mid and late game. 21 in offense to hit like a truck, 9 in defense to give you extra Armor and MR + HP for diving and trading is essential.
Running Ignite + Flash summoners guarantees you early kills with my Masteries and Runes imo :D

I'm pretty sure since the mastery changes it's actually possible to use AP/level runes on her now, since you get a lot more starting AP from masteries. Before I used to use 3 AP quints, 4 Flat AP Blues and 5 AP/level blues, but I think now it would be possible to take out the flat and go for 9 AP/level.
If possible you should go with as many per level as you can since they outscale flat runes at level 6 - the exact point Akali becomes wtfpwn strong.
