Play ALL the champs.

It's not a prereq for 30, but people will be more forgiving if it's your first time with a champ / in a role.

Once you hit 30, people find it ridiculous if you've never jungled, carried, played mid, et cetera. Not always, but more often.

At least be familiar with different roles and a few champs. Before you go to ranked, you definitely need to have a wider variety of champs you can play (about 3-4 champs in each role, preferably).

You'll never need to own all the champs in the game. You'll need to own at least 16 to play ranked, and having more is useful for trading with your allies in champ select. (Plus it makes ARAMs really fun.) It can also be really nice to make sure you own most of the common bans at your Elo, just to be 100% sure that your enemies will use ban slots on them. (This become less of an issue as you progress up tiers, because between you and your allies you'll tend to own nearly every champion anyway.)

Before you go into ranked, you'll need to be at least passingly familiar with what every champion can do, however, regardless of whether or not you ever expect to face them in lane. Not knowing what Akali's ultimate allows her to do, for instance, will get you killed and lose you games. Knowing what other champions can do is very important.

As far as what you play, you should at least try every champion, mostly so you'll know from experience what they can do. From there, find champions that you're good at, or champions you just enjoy, and work on getting better at them. Hopefully you've been doing this all along, though.

As you climb through the tiers, you'll need to be able to play most roles, simply because you won't be able to get what you want every game. It also helps a lot to be able to play several champions in each role, to make sure that you'll actually have a champion you play that you can pick.

My posts may be long. If this bothers you, don't read them.

Once you hit lvl 30, pick 3-4 champs per role and practice them. Roles in lane like ADC, Mid , and Top, you should be focusing on trying to get to where you can get around 80 cs per minute(especially mid and adc). Also, make sure you get about 300 wins under your belt in normals. Also, make sure you don't just play blind pick. You need to get used to playing draft pick and doing bans/dealing with them. Just so you know, this is my plan I am working on. I am gonna use more than 3-4 champs per role, but the point is to get used to them and know them well enough to win your lane or at least be able to not feed if facing a hard counter.

As stated above, try to play all champs so you have at least a little idea how they work. Knowing how Diana can save her ult if she hits her Q on you, let's you know that trading with her is not a good idea except immediately after she used it.

Here's one that I see people suggesting all over: learn to play OP champs. I'm not saying all, but have some, and learn how to play them. Also, know what stages of the game they are strongest in and how they can be shut down. For example, Darius is strong early game, but if a jungler camps his lane to keep him from getting kills, he's useless late. An unfed Darius is an almost useless Darius.

Last suggestion, try to be positive. Here's a little video that explains what I mean. It's funny, plus check out the rest of his videos. They are funny but also give you some good tips that will helped with ranked.

Off-topic: Even mentioning Darius as OP is sad.

On-topic: You have to know all roles, even if you only specialize in one or two (preferably two). Have at least two solid complementary picks for each role (example: for support, instead of Janna and Soraka - both defensive supports - get like a Thresh and a Lulu, or a Soraka and a Leona. For mid it'd be something like a Zed and a Lux, etc. Champs that, under the same lane, fill in different roles and work well vs (some) different champs and teamcomps).

Also, don't rush into ranked; you're currently facing people with your own approximate normal elo, which gives you an "illusion" of quality. If you jump into ranked you'll be facing and placed with tons of mixed levels of play, and while you might do stuff like go 3-0 in lane, it doesn't mean you're yet qualified to carry your games and climb the ranked ladders.

Good luck with your future games!
Thank you Byron for 2014's loudest laugh up till today

Eh, should've separated that out. Wasn't trying to say Darius is OP, just that if shut down early he's useless. I honestly think he is one of the most overrated champs by people who truly don't know the game. I have a lower level friend that loves playing Darius and thinks he is an awesome champ.

don't play ranked until 500-700+ wins
be open to criticism
focus on mechanics
force yourself to realize mistakes and learn from them
Focus on two roles (for example adc and jungle or something like that)
narrow down further to 3-5 champions per role
focus on mastering a champion or a few champions rather than learning all champions

as per the famous Bruce Lee quote "I don't fear the man who has practiced a thousand kicks, I fear the man who has practiced a kick a thousand times"
Thanks for the Signature MissMaw!

Just have one or two that you are INSANE with, and then try to pick them as much as you can. You'll need backups in case you can't play them, though.

As everyone said:

#Focus on 1-2 roles

#You should get to learn every champions in the game, just to see what they're capable of. So when you play against them you're not surprised by the ammount of damage they can pull off, the skills they're using etc..

#You can start ranking anytime, just few things you gotta keep in mind:
-If you lose a game, it might not be your fault but raging on your team mates won't help.
--If it's your fault you can ask yourself, what did I do wrong, how can I proceed to not repeat that mistake again.
--If it's not your fault, what could you have done better to help your team. If you were winning your lane could you have pushed the tower faster so you can help other lanes? If you were the jungler could you have taken more objectives? Gank more. (Always keep in mind that the 4 people or 3 people that you're getting paired with won't be in the next game and the one after, you can point out their mistake once, if they don't want to listen drop it, you'll just get angry and start playing poorly)
-It's maybe going to be hard on your self-esteem to get placed in a certain division when you think you deserve better, but you gotta see ranked games like any other kind of games. Even if you start in Bronze V your goal will be to improve everyday and one day you will make it to the place that will make yourself happy.

I wish you best of lucks no matter what your decision will be. Don't forget this game is for fun, there's no reason to stress about anything. If anything add me ingame "NA Zyra" I'll be glad to answer your questions.

PS: For all those saying you shouldn't ranked, they're wrong. If you don't ranked you just won't be placed anywhere for this season and the next season. There's no right time to start and if you're not happy of the results, you're getting a nice reset every years after the season.

ty xaiolu for the sign :3
