You'd have the exact same problem. Its not like blind pick just magically has a bunch of people wanting to jungle and support, they usually just settle for it if everyone else calls their roles first. The reason you have to wait 15 minutes for a jungler isn't because there's no one playing team builder, its because your lobby took all the popular roles and just want someone to take the roles they don't want. Compared to party finders in MMOs, 15-30 minutes is pretty standard when looking for someone of an unpopular role.
But I don't mind if I have to settle for an unpopular role. It is worth it in my mind to save 15-20 minutes of waiting for a party. But because all the chat isn't displayed, it makes blind pick much more difficult than it needs to be.
I totally hate this and know your pain. I've called a lane, waited 10 seconds, THEN locked in only to have someone say after I've locked in and can't do anything "Sorry, that's been called" and start calling me blind, stupid, ******ed, ect, for not seeing it when it's literally not there. I try to tell them "You know, people enter chat in an order. If I wasn't here I can't help it" only to get told "Oh look, the idiot's making false excuses"
Needless to say, I'd ignore it. Or back out completely (don't quote me on this, but I don't think you get on LeaverBuster's watch if you haven't gotten past the champion select) because generally THOSE people are the ones who are going to make you feel like **** for every in-game mistake you make.
I just stick with TeamBuilder for now. You get fancy icons for doing it and all that other fun stuff. The wait is longer, sure. But there's not as much fight and hassle.
As far as to what some others have said:
If I'm going into blind pick, I'm picking whatever the hell I want, and if you get pissed over it, that's really not my problem. Sorry, it's pick order > call order. If I pick first and lock it, officially, it means you pick another role. If you pick first, I should go another role. Unfortunately for others, I don't really care.
I wish it always worked that way. That's the same philosophy I have, but sometimes just to spite you, they'll come **** your lane up. I've had it happen. One of my mains is Ahri, and I locked her in when someone had "apparently" called mid before me with no champion selection during PvP match. They fed so hard and kept saying "Well you should have picked something that was open" over and over until I wanted to scream. The frustration isn't always worth having it how you want, as much as I wish it was. :c
Yeah, but what if you've already locked in? Some champions you literally can't play in multiple lanes, and you're screwed at that point if you've locked in and then someone says it's taken in the not-the-nicest way. At one point I was forced to take Shyvana on bot lane, and I felt like a fish out of water because top was claimed, but it's not like I could have changed and the flame was bad enough I didn't dare lane steal. It's not always about the picks, I guess. It's about the frustration of having the 4 other people jump down your throat when you can't change your pick. That's the worst part of it.

The best thing I have learned from playing is that you should try to familiarize yourself with at least 4 out of the 5 roles.I know sometimes there is just that one champion you want to play though. Sometimes you can play that champion in a different role.

I don't care at all. It's a normal and it doesn't matter. I have the mute button to use if anyone doesn't have anything good to say to me.

I don't care at all. If they want to start screwing my lane over, I screw their game over. They're the jungler? I'm going to counter jungle my own team. I'm going to steal CS from other lanes. I'm going to bait my teammates into dying. I'm going to say no to the surrender vote. If I can't have fun in a normal playing it to win and having a good game, then I'm going to make it hell for any *******s on my team and waste their time as much as possible. They'll find that they are probably going to have trouble screwing me over much more than I can screw them over.

I don't care what 4 other premades wanted if it's unreasonable, which in this case, it is. Once you stop caring about what other people are flaming you with, you get a whole lot more out of a normal game. Normal games are for fun. I'll be damned if some jerks feel like taking that away from me. There are lots of ways to have fun other than playing to win.

Don't lock in. Never lock in, because there is no need to lock in. League gives you 60 (or maybe 90? I forgot) seconds for champion selection, so you might as well make the most of it. When I play normals, it's very rare that I actually get the role that I call - namely because i'm preoccupied with reading, or something else when champion select comes on. I usually get my 3rd-5th most desired role, and I'm okay with that. It gives me the opportunity to improve my mechanics in a lane/champion that I would not otherwise have done.
Alternatively, you can opt for draft pick as well. The whole pick order > call order notion is generally respected in draft pick, which leads to less awkward and confusing situations
