Yeah, that's because there is an average to every chance. So the sum of all the RNG is in most cases double digit floors.
You have most definitely been ****ed by RNG. There is zero doubt about that, even if it might not be common.

It's not about averages. Not really. The main reason I generally lose around the double digit floors is 'cuz enemies do huge amounts of elemental damage once you get that far down, and I haven't figured out a strategy to deal with that in the long term. It might be a matter of memorizing the elements of each floor so you can stockpile equipment with the right resistances. Which sounds like a pain in the ***. Also my skill setup is probably not really that great. It's just consistent and easy.
When I say that I don't get ****ed by RNG in that game, I really do mean it. It's extremely rare to be killed by a single enemy, and even if any given enemy is too powerful there are simple ways to handle most of them. Trap vision allows you to generally avoid heavy damage from non-enemy things, so the only thing to worry about is groups of enemies with elemental damage ranged attacks or groups of heavy hitting enemies. A large part of learning to deal with those is not fighting in situations where they have the advantages; instead of fighting in the middle of the monster zoo, back up to a choke point and abuse it. Then, once you've dealt with the bulk of the zoo, come back to clean up. It's mostly about having enough armor and enough healing to avoid real damage from enemies, which isn't that difficult once you learn what the best ways to find good equipment are or if you keep a lot of potions on hand.
The single thing RNG thing that killed me the most was actually only made possible by my own action. Those blue diamond floor plates that teleport you to another area can spawn enemies from muuuuuuch lower floors, which is, strictly, death by RNG. But you can't die to that RNG unless you decide to walk onto one of those floor plates. So it is death by die roll, yeah, but the player decided to roll that particular die.
I can understand that Dungeons of Dredmor looks to be really random. And, to some extent, yeah, it is. But that doesn't mean that the game is about luck rather than skill. Like poker, it's definitely about skill. (Although I don't think that's necessarily a good comparison; Dungeons of Dredmor probably involves much less luck than poker.)

The great thing about Humble Bundle is you can chose not to give the devs a dime.
but I will have to look into Rock Paper Shotgun, didn't know they were involved in the quinnspiracy and gamergate debacle. Also I have no idea what the "quinnspiracy and gamergate debacle." is even about :P
Something that was completely blown out of proportion by people who spent most of the time arguing about things that had nothing to do with corruption in gaming, which has probably always existed. I'm guessing a lot of big gaming sites like GameSpot, IGN and others have taken money or other perks for positive coverage. And I don't doubt at all that some of the big YouTube personalities (TotalBiscuit for example) have done it. But no one makes a big deal about it until this? Come on now... LOL
Anyway, if you like the Bundle then you should buy it. Don't worry about corruption in the industry because its freaking everywhere. If you do that then you shouldn't be buying pretty much any game, ever.

Actually, I think TB is one of those that wouldn't do it. He's been leading the debate in sponsored content and corruption. He's clearly labeling it every time he makes a piece of sponsored content, promotional or otherwise.

It is really random. Period.
But that doesn't mean that it doesn't rely mostly on skill.
Pretty much every game in existence is more about skill than luck, it'd have to be a pretty bad game to rely more on RNG than on skill.

I figured the same about Audiosurf, hah.
Amnesia is a great game. The scares aren't as bad when you get used to it, but the game is incredibly atmospheric, tells a great story and has some good puzzles. It's almost like a first person point and click.
You should finish it if you have the time.
Yup. You can also play it on a tablet or phone if you'd like to use touch instead of a mouse. The game works really well with touch.
