People, in general, abuse animals, this is not limited to dogs or cats. Cats are hard to train to not scratch things, so many people declaw them, which is pretty much the cruelest thing you can do for the sake of your furniture. As MissMaw pointed out, dogs are easily trained to not defecate indoors, besides the fact that cat feces can pretty easily spread diseases to humans while dog feces generally don't. You're also totally ignoring the fact that cats often kill other animals purely for the sake of doing so, besides the fact that they are regularly completely unaffectionate. I'm allergic to both cats and dogs, but I'd honestly rather deal with the allergies having a dog vs having a cat. If I want pets that're mostly gonna ignore me anyways, I'll stick to the tarantulas, at least they do neat things when you feed them.[/quote]
