If you don't sustain, you can't trade blows effectively. If you can't trade blows effectively, you can't win your lane or even farm well enough.

3 Pots is usually all I need for sustain on Renekton to get the kill.
On Nocturne, cloth and 5 pots, boots 3 pots, or health pendant 1 pot depending on opponent.

Shyvana is okay solo-top. Not enough sustain to dominate, IMO.
