when Maokai was first awakened in the twisted treeline, his anguish for having been taken from his natural existence caused a great wave of grief to permeate the world. in these few moments of magically fueled terror, a long forgotten spirit was awoken in the forsaken jungles of ***ungu. traveling north past the great barrier, Madeline saw magical scars upon the land left by the Rune Wars upon Mogron Pass. Seeking Maokai, the source of her awakening, she came to the Institute of War. Upon arriving, she began blasting the premises with arrows infused with a powerful and forgotten earth magic. after two days of this assault and with the institute's magical defenses hardly holding, it was surprisingly Maokai himself who convinced her to stop. When she discovered the cause of the League of Legends she immediately volunteered to join in order to give penance for her rash actions. Because she was such a powerful force against the magic that is wielded by many champions, she quickly became a favorite of summoners in the league.

Many capricious spirits reside in the deep jungles of ***ungu, bestowing blessings and curses on whomever they please. Madeline has always been amung the strongest of them. When she was young, woken from her tree for barely a day, she bestowed a blessing on a child who wandered into her glen (Nidalee). Her rashness angered the elders, but they were shocked by the raw power she wielded. So she was sent on a quest to learn all she could about herself and how to use her powers more wisely.
The scars of battle and magic she saw on the land changed her. She became angry and sought vengance for the harm that had been caused. She returned to her elders after 20 long years. They were taken aback by her anger, for it burned like a forest fire and had consumed every drop of happiness, innocence and kindness leaving nothing but hatred and rage. They tried to calm her, but it was in vain. Finally, in a particularly strong fit of rage, she killed each and every one of the spirits who had tried to help her.
For the first time in years Madeline realized what she had become. She wanted to atone for her actions, but knew not how. So she spent 5 years in solitude and eventually she found peace.
She vowed to battle evil with the powers she had honed through rage and anger. Eventually she joined the League of Legends in a hope to better herself and fight the hatred that still threatens to consume her.
"Though she has become a benevolent spirit, evil awakens something in her that is too powerful to contain."
EDIT: such a happy story, isn't it? XD

How to tank guide (Revamped! 10/13)
Here is a rough copy of what I've got, quickly written so as to take advantage of my temporary internet connection. Its open to suggestions and such:
In the forests of Runeterra there are beings known as sprites, little fairy like creatures who are bound closely to the nature from which they are created. By redirecting the energies of some parts of the forest they maintain the balance of nature. Madaline was one of these sprites. Soon after her creation it became apparent to the other spirits that she was different, she shirked her duties and prefered to use her powers to play tricks and mischieviesly unbalance the natural flow of things.
After a while the others had had enough of her tricks and sentenced her to exile from he home forest. As Madaline wandered she accidentally stumbled into Summoners Rift. Confused by the addition of another being of some power into the Rift, League Officials halted the match and set out to find this disturbance. At first encounter she lashed out with a flurry of razor sharp leaves, and much to the dismay of those who attempted to heal as Madaline seemed to be getting healed just as much as themselves. Finally managing to convey that they were not trying to hurt her they managed to get her to calm down enough to tell her story. After consideration the Officials offered Madaline a place to stay and a place that she could play all the tricks she wanted, in the League of Legends.

Finally, we're able to move on to some of the finest points of this process.
Say hello to Madeline, Nature's Thorn.
As of this thread's creation, her skills are being decided as we speak, but now is an opportunity to decide some more flavor for this champion. In this thread, we'll be discussing and submitting our own backstories for this champion.
Keep things in the style that the official LoLers do. Here's
Jax proved himself to be an immediate terror in the Fields of Justice. The self-proclaimed ''Armsmaster of the League'' rattled off a streak of consecutive wins that to this day has not been matched. A number of summoners in the League grew concerned that the perceived objectivity of the League of Legends would be questioned by the presence of an unknown fighter who was unbeatable. For this reason, the new leader of the League (following Reginald Ashram's disappearance), High Councilor Heyward Relivash, created special restrictions for Jax to fight under. This was something the League had never done before, and something that has never been done since. The burly fighter responded by imposing his own special conditions; as a means of protest, he permitted himself to fight using only a brass lamppost. Neither the League's sanctions nor his own has affected his winning ways. The League has since rescinded its sanctions, but Jax has not; he fights and fights well with his trusty brass lamppost.
"Be advised - there has been an outbreak of lamppost-shaped bruises in the League of Legends." - Gragas
Happy writing, summoners!
