Viable?
I tried it before. Personally, I find her clearing wayyy too slow to be any good, especially when she don't have blue. Another problem of hers is she can't start a gank effectively pre-6, due to her lack of CC, as well as her slow movement speed. It only worked if she can get close enough to land a Tempo
Power Chord when her lane partner engages first. In a sense, she's a bit like
Warwick and
Shyvana where their ganks aren't any good at all pre-6. The only time when it actually worked for me is when I played with my friends who took middle and bottom so I have good communication with them. Though, tbh, I feel like it only worked because the enemies were not expecting a jungle
Sona to appear.

"League killed my family... Now I need revenge. As soon as I get out of my room." - Nobody ever.
There are generally five types of junglers:
Ganking junglers excel at surprise attacks on laners via roots, stuns, snares, gap closers, knockbacks, speed boosts, steroids, etc. The idea behind any ganking jungler is to punish the enemy laner for overextending; and their viability is determined by how easy this can be done.
Clearing junglers excel at clearing camps. They either can go from camp to camp extremely fast, have spells that keep them healthy and/or hardy, clear the camps really fast, etc.
Counterjunglers are natural born fighters that excel at making the enemy jungler's job hard. These junglers excel at duels and take advantage of lack of vision.
Carry junglers are normally assassins that do less ganking and more... securing in terms of helping lanes. They excel at killing people really fast or in turrets - a common example of this is
Diana (if she builds heavy AP and not tank).
Shaco deserves his own type simply because he's anti-meta and his main purpose isn't what junglers normally do. Don't get me wrong, he still ganks, clears, and counterjungles, but his main focus is melting turrets and giving the team map control in the process.
A top tier jungler is either someone who excels at a number of these, or blows other junglers out of the park in one of these.
Sona is none of these. Her only cc is her ultimate, so she can't gank very well because she needs to be in the right place, at the right time, with full health and an ultimate not on cooldown. If the gank fails, she's likely to be mopped up because of her squish value. That rules out ganking.
Her clears aren't all that good, and most junglers who have good clears are those who have some sort of defense boost (
Diana or
Shyvana for example) or can just speed through the jungle (
Shyvana again) or do tons of damage to camps (
Karthus is still this). That rules out clearing.
Don't think I've ever heard "Don't duel
Sona"; she'll be mutilated by too many junglers that have normal pick rates (
Nocturne,
Shyvana,
Diana,
Master Yi,
Vi,
Warwick, the list goes on) and there's nothing you can to to stop them from deciding to come make your life hell. That rules out counterjungling.
Sona doesn't normally carry because she can be shut down quite easily (unless she's supporting, which then it's such a pain), and if you wanted to carry, mid would be a better fit for
Sona anyway. That rules out carrying.
Sona could be a
Shaco jungler if she puts on a mask tho :D
Hope this helped!

What category does in this case fit AD Malzahar in? He is a great duelist, he clears the jungler faster than anyone and he can destroy 2 towers if left alone in 15 seconds. He also has an ultimate that is an surpression with a rather long range, what could you want more for ganks.

I believe that would be a ganking|counterjungling combo, and although destroying turrets fast would at first glance warrant him placement in the
Shaco category, his main strat in the game wouldn't be destroying turrets would it? I mean,
Shaco lives for melting turrets within seconds.
Is AD
Malzahar a meta jungle now? I've seen neither AD Malzies nor jungahar in pvp so I don't have any applied knowledge towards how that would work.

Is AD

AD Malzahar still has the problem that he is the hardest jungler in the game to play and that his ganks pre 6 are rather bad. Tho, since the changes to
Black Cleaver, he can build rather tanky and still deal high damage and post 6 he is very hard to stop. He is also definitly stronger if fit in the right teamcomp where he can splitpush or has enough peel from his team.

Jungle Sona is top tier right now, but I wouldn't do it unless you know what you're doing. Build void staff first item, ignore getting a jungler item, that just sets you back in gold. Then buy a mejai's soulstealer and start stacking. If you need more ap and lifesteal go for a hextech gunblade. Finally, stack all your other item slots with rabadons. That's what I do and I win every time.
If you want you can check out my Mordekaiser Guide Once a month I update it daily.

Are you using this build in ranked? Somehow I don't see you building stacks of

Yea, her ult is a nice ganking tool, she has good mobility and poke but that's where her usefulness for jungle ends in my eyes. Even if you build heavy AP, is it even worth it? Most junglers could slaughter her 1v1 in mid or even early game. She's super squishy no matter how tanky you build and her aforementioned ult is her only real strength besides her passive+Q.
I guess I can applaud them for trying something different. They did lose that game too. Their Sona only shined in their teamfights.
