I find manamune very occasional.
AD champs that use Mana to deal dps. I use it on:
Miss Fortune, Gangplank, (sometimes) Urgot, Kayle, (atm trying out)DPS Malphite, DPS Nasus, Sivir.
So its a good item but if you need more damage or so, or you are low lvl and dont have ArP runes or so, this might be a bad idea to go for mana. But if you go, be more passive untill you end it up?

I use Manamune more than most people and most of them tell me that whoever I'm using doesn't need mana and I should go for mana regen. I rarely use Manamune for the mana specifically, mostly just for attack damage, while the mana does actually help. It is not one of the items that I really rely on and it doesn't massively affect my results very much. I personally like it though and I would recommend it as a good base item for low ELO.

The manamune is very viable in my opinion, but only mid/late game, let me explain now that the leaked patch notes ARE on the site.
Ex, consider a good dps style hero, not so much trist but ashe or kayle.
Start a basic item build, but grab mana regen first, which you should anyway (meki pendant)
closely followed by a full infinity edge or JUST a BF sword depending on how fed you are.
Now pick up a manamune, by the time you have this you should have more than 1500 mana. which in turn is 45 AD, + the 20 base is 65.
There is an item coming out called the Hexdrinker:
New Item: Hexdrinker
o Hexdrinker Recipe: Long Sword + Long Sword + Null-Magic Mantle + 570 gold = 1800 gold
o +35 Attack Damage
o +30 Magic Resistance
o UNIQUE Passive: If you are below 40% of your maximum health after taking magic damage, you gain 30 Attack Damage and 150 Magic Resistance for 4 seconds. This effect can occur once every 60 seconds.
which on kayle or ashe would be golden as you often find yourself in low health situations, or even EZREAL!
now follow that up with the new malady coming out.. especially on kayle or ezreal
Malady
o Recipe Changed to: Dagger + Dagger + Amplifying Tome + 550 = 1825 total cost.
o Base stats changed to +50% attack speed, 25 ability power from +50% attack speed, +15% life steal.
o Unique Passive changed to: Your physical attacks shred your target doing 20 magic damage and reducing their magic resistance by 6. Magic resistance reduction stacks up to 4 times.
... and there you go, you are rape no matter what you follow up with. I even see the new malady being a beast on warwick because of the stacking damage. Malady + Lizard buff + bloodrazor on 2k health is pretty lethal... just my opinion..

Look at Taric. he never has enough mana, so he stacks mana anyways. Might as well get him a
Manamune to do something with all that mana. This of course requires a hybrid or DPS taric. Hybrid, IMO, works the best.

So Manamune overall is a great item. Mana Regen, Mana, and AD. Costs a bit more than a BF Sword but puts out a lot more. However, when you first get the item it seems to be very weak until you max it's passive out and blah blah blah.. To be a good carry I feel you must be consistent, you seem to be right because whenever I get Manamune as a first item on my carries it doesn't seem worth it.
Example: AD Ezreal: I have never done well getting Manamune first I can't really explain why. I just much rather get a x2 Doran's Blades, Boots of Speed, and a Brutalizer early on instead of Manamune. I feel there is more consistency in my damage output so I can farm the same and get kills to rush that Infinity Edge.
Manamune on champions that aren't carries is a different story.

Speaking of which, I have seen a Taric focused on healing that did more dps than anybody else on our team, simply having stacked AP.
Manamune is an item that takes time much like Archangel's and RoA. If you are willing to wait for it to build up, go for it. You could also throw in some other mana items to get more out of it. That's what I do with Archangel's. It makes me sad that I can't have Archangel's on some of my favourite AP champs just because they don't have mana. That would likely be the same situational subject with Manamune.
Really annoying:
Some people have told me Manamune is ******ed and the champ I'm using it on doesn't need mana and I point out that it's for the AD...obviously.

Perhaps its my rune build that doesn't agree with it, but usually I'm 10-2 or so on carries with a decdently built team, but when I do manamune I end up like 3-5 or so.
Anyone else feel the same way about it?
I just find it way better to go straight for Infinity Edge, Get a Phantom Dancer or Madred's depending on the other team's health situation.
