Alright, imagine this situation, 4 AD Carries and 1 AP Carry.

The AP Carry gets fed, and you have to decide on whether or not you get armor or mresist.

So, my question is what do you get first? Counter the most prominent threat or the majority of damage?

There are a few exceptions to what I'm about to say; (Ryze and Cas and Karthus, sustained DPS casters break this rule)

Build HP.

HP counters AP burst, and will be useful against AD as well.

Warmogg's OP as per usual.

Then you stack up on your armor.

A GA will go a long way as well.

ALWAYS if it's a 4 physical 1 magic build massive armor, and instantly kill the dude doing magic damage.

Everyone in the enemy team should be happy...
Caster should buy Zhonya's.
Tank 3/2 Armor (Dont forget Thornmail)
And AD sth like Atma's.

You focus the mage, without suffering too many casualties -> win.

If you're in this situation the only way to win is to build AS on your mage, CDR on your carry, MPen on your tank, Mana on your support, and AP on your jungler (unless it's fid, then you build health)

Rly though do what everyone else said, but if you can't focus the mage properly, do what duff said :P

Erm, I'd say thornmail is a pretty good buy if you're facing four autoattackers.

No idea why you ever would be, but that was the hypothetical situation in the OP.
