Need help theorycrafting an ap varus build.

Im trying to figure out what would be the optimal ap varus build, but there are simply too many "essential" items out there

Sorc Boots/Zerker Greaves: Pretty self explanatory, you need boots.
Dfg: Amps blight detonation, makes your burst even more insane.
Nashors: Works well with bonus magic dmg onhit from W, allows for fasterb blight stacks application.
Hurricane: Spreads the blight stacks to multiple people.
Lich Bane: Gives more burst after combo, movespeed.
Zhonyas: Every1 need defense, also gives a ton of ap.
Deathcap & Void staff: Pretty self explanatory.
This leaves me with 8 items. Which ones should i use? Are there any others?

AP Varus scales from auto attacks and ultimate.
When Varus deals damage from a spell after having auto attacked, he also deals bonus damage in %.
AP Varus has quite long cooldowns (the shortest CD is 8 seconds).

So what does AP Varus need?
* Attack speed (Nashor's Tooth, Wit's End, Hurricane, Blade of the Ruined King)
* Heavy AP (Rabadons Deathcap, Deathfire Grasp, Zhonya's Hourglass)
* Magic penetration (Liandry's Torment, Void Staff, Sorcerer's Shoes)

Now before you run to me and bite me in the neck, let's see how we can combine these items optimal:
Nashor's Tooth (YES), Wit's End (Decent), Hurricane (maybe), Blade of the Ruined King (maybe)
Rabadons Deathcap (yes), Deathfire Grasp (decent), Zhonya's Hourglass (decent)
Liandry's Torment (no.), Void Staff (yes), Sorcerer's Shoes (yes)

Let's combine all the yesses:
Nashor's Tooth + Rabadons Deathcap + Void Staff + Sorcerer's Shoes

Then pick one more AS item (I'd pick wits obviously) and finish it off with a heavy AP item. Deathfire when having no probs, Zhonyas when dying fast :P

Order I use for AP Varus is generally Nashors Dcap Zhonyas (Or void staff, if they get MR) then its pretty much usually over by that point.

I see. What order would it be best to get them in?

DFG or Lich (not sure which, kinda depends how much front loaded burst you have and stuff). You should always get Zhonya's at some point since you're a squishy mage who has to autoattack in team fights and has no escape.

What should i get instead of Wits End then?

-Wits End
-Void Staff
Which order would you reccomend building these items in?

why do mobafire hate so much hurricanes.

Hurricane is never reliable. Never ever ever ever. Hurrican is only good if 3 enemies is within your range at all times, and even then, Wits End will still probably outclass hurricane.

Would there be any cases where it would be better to buy hurricane (e.g. AOE comp)? Or does WE just outclass it all around?

Wit's end is better because hurrican is nothing but attack speed. Yes you can also hit multiple targets, but they also should all be within a certain range etc. etc. Wit's end is much more reliable. It grants attack speed, MR and magic penetration, which all are beneficial in most cases.

Sounds good. So only get dfg when dominating, otherwise get zhonyas. I suppose ap varus already deals enough damage, no need for overkill. Out of curiosity, what makes wits better than hurricane? Is it the defensive stats? Wouldnt hurricane allow a ton of AOE dmg?

i would not go for lich bane, you need to autoattack first and then detonate your marks. hurricane maybe as last item, i don't really think this is as good as the rest.
rabadons is essential(like really essential).

^ it's terrible. Varus would rather burst a single target with autos Ult, autos E. and not care about hitting multiple people

hurrican is perhaps the NUMBER 1 needed item for a team that DO NOT HAVE aoe damage. If you go mid, and if your top, bot and jungler does not offer aoe for your teamfights, then I think hurricanes is essencial late game my sir.

So lich bane and hurricane are out? Also what order should i get the items in?
