    So... Anyone know the standard text color code is?

    The default text color in guides is r192, g192, b192. In hex, that's #C0C0C0.

    Try [color=#c0c0c0] instead

    No, that's just white. The default text is more grey ish. OTG uses it in his guide and if I have to I use [color=#CFCFCF] which is close enough.
