With the end of Season 2 last night, everyone's elo has been "soft reset" to compress everyone closer to 1250. I thought it would be interesting to see the range of players I would play against while I started this season at 1570 elo. Most of the people so far have been platinum (in S2), with usually one diamond or one gold player depending on which way the elo is swaying.
Here are the two games I've played so far today:

I played mostly AD Carry near the end of S2, so I was worried my AP would be rusty. It turns out that I was a pretty rusty mid, but it still worked out.
Katarina had a rough time mid, so
Hecarim tried to camp me quite a bit and even helped her get an early kill on me. Practically every lane and jungle won though, so it was quite an easy first game of the season.

Even though I was a higher pick and wanted to play ADC, I let the my teammate play
Varus while I supported. I wasn't planning on
Taric, but he specifically requested him or
Leona. The game started very heavily in our favor, with the score being 8-1 in favor of us, as well as our team getting nearly every dragon.
Varus was very far ahead of
Miss Fortune, but the enemy team's
Cho'Gath,
Orianna, and
Janna could clear creep waves so fast that our team could never push the Inhibitor towers. With our inability to push and some misplays by
Morgana in teamfights, the enemy team eventually equalized in kills (but were probably still down in gold, due to less towers and dragons).
Miss Fortune turned a terrible lane around to nearly pentakilling our team during a teamfight at Baron, leading to them getting Baron and killing our mid Inhibitor. After waiting out Baron,
Morgana managed to get a nice ultimate off to catch
Lee Sin and
Cho'Gath while out of position. With them dead, we managed to chase down the rest and finish the game in a very close 55 minute game.
With those two wins, I ended the day at about 1660. I'm questioning whether I should continue to play ranked while everyone and their mom's are trying to climb the ladder. Would it be more beneficial to wait a few weeks for the ladder to stabilize?

Also, if you think about it, no matter what there will be people who think the same as you.
I don't think waiting for ranked to calm down and etc would really matter. I would say just play whenever you can/want.
Plus if you're going to play them anyways, might as well play them now. :)
